Truvia

I recently discovered Turvia and use it daily in my hot tea and greek yogurt.  I use about 2-4 packets a day.  I noticed I've been super hungry lately.  I'm 17 months post op and have been struggling to get back on track, back to basics since the holidays.  My lowest weight was 172 and today I'm 183.  I go up and down in weight all the time.
I'm wondering if Truvia, the natural sweetner has anything to do with my hungry??  Maybe I'm just looking for an excuse.  Any thoughts??  Any research??  Anything :)

As far as sweeteners go, I highly recommend the Now brand Stevia.. I've tried a bunch of brands and most of them don't taste great to me, but the Now brand is great and I keep some of it in my purse and use it in my teas, etc.

Truvia is NOT pure stevia.. it's stevia with sugar alcohols mixed in it which is why it tastes great but also your body may not do well with it at all. It may increase your cravings and/or blood sugars so I wouldn't use it for sure.

I know.. I get so sick of borderline dishonest and/or misleading marketing on so many things. The worst to me was the brown sugar splenda thing.. I ate a good amount of the stuff without realizing it was pure brown sugar in there, when I had been abstinent for several years from pure sugar! Grrr...

Funny you should mention this. At our support group meeting, our surgeon said to be careful of all the natural sweeteners because they are basically sugar even if it's in a form that the body has trouble absorbing. Because we do absorb some of it so even if they have zero calories in a small dose, they actually have "zero" calories, if you know what I mean. Also the body reacts to them much like sugar including an insulin response and craving sweet things.

Do you really believe that about Sucralose?  Or do you think it's an individual thing?  I've been using a liquid Sucralose called SweetzFree for a year and a half and I don't feel any unusual reactions to it...no cravings for sweets and definitely not affecting my weight in any way.  I always worry about things like this, but gosh, we give up so much for this new lifestyle and I at least want one thing I don't have to give up.

Well, I know the insulin-reaction thing is true because it's been studied. But the thing is, if you aren't insulin resistant, it probably doesn't matter. OTOH, if you are, then it might.

I'm definitely not insulin resistant.

It's always good to know the facts.  Thanks, I know you do lots of research.  I'm not IR either, but I'll keep an eye on things.
