Does anyone else do weird stuff?

I do the same exact thing Diane! I go to the store and stock up on things that are good for me- yet perishable, and then I really do not want to eat them, and they go bad. I feel bad wasting the money and the food, but then I go do it again. I literally just opened the box of protein bars I bought at Vitamin Shoppe two months ago, only to realize they expire in like 3 weeks.. duh!

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!

Pick me, pick me!  My kitchen cupboards and freezers are always overflowing.  It's as if we are going to run out of food.  I've always been like that but at least I don't think it effects how I eat.

I'll see your pantry and raise you one- fruits and veggies.  I always buy fruits and veggies with the best of intentions, yet I throw out more than I eat!  I've started scaling back on how much I buy especially with both my kids gone now, but I forget to take the fruits to work, then end up eating someone else's.  Thank God I work with my siblings!

The other thing I do is that ever since i stopped weighing my food, I always overestimate how much I can eat, and end up throwing food away.

Nice to know I am not alone in my shopping and stocking habits.  Last weekend I threw out some of the foods that had expired in 2008 from when I had my surgery. Some Protein Powders, pre-made chick salad, bars...yikes...    I too waste alot, and am trying really hard not too.  I am starting a game of Iron Chef, using a "Secret Ingredient" from my fridge or cupboard.  Ter

Apparently, you can freeze some of this stuff. I have a friend who only shops once a month and has two fridges in the garage so she can freeze half of what she buys. She even freezes the milk!

I buy a lot of fresh veggies and they go bad and have to be thrown out. But everything else I do okay on.

I always buy a large Wendy's chili ($2.00) just to keep in the fridge........works great for a lunch or to top a piece of chicken or frozen turkey meatballs. Sometimes I use it up inside my 3 day refer food tolerance period...... most times more than half gets chucked.....sometimes the whole thing gets thrown out.....just the way it is I guess.

The weirdest thing I do now.........Weight loss has turned me into a condiment thief !!!!

- I may spend $2.00 for my chili at Wendy's.....but I take about 20 packs of Ketchup, 12 forks and spoons, 10 mustard's.

- At Starbucks, my Capuchino is $2.50 but I pocket about 30 packs of Splenda every time.

- At the deli down the street when I pick up lunch for the crew..... I bag "Many" packets of Best Foods Mayo, Heinz Ketchup, malt vinegar, to many knifes forks spoons, graded Parmesan cheese.

- At the Asian market I help myself to way to many packets of Kikkoman Soy Sauce, wasabi, Chinese mustard, steak sauce.

These packets are perfect size for sleeve eating and I even pack a variety of packets when I travel.

I'm a packet thief !!!!!!!!!

Throwing stuff out has always been a struggle for me.  I have to keep telling myself "I am not a garbage can; I am not a garbage can."

Diane, how did I miss this thread? I do all this stuff folks are talking about. weird stuff, indeed. and the stocking up - what am I, a hamster? I love to scurry home with tons of food so I will never never never run out.

I love the "I'm not a garbage can" thing - I struggle with throwing out stuff all the time.

throw it OUT if the alternative is eating it just to get rid of it before it goes bad!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

I am secretly thrilled to learn that others do this stuff too. And I too love the idea of "i am not the garbage can"  My version of this is that you can either throw food out or "pack it on your a$$"  and i finally learned not to pack it on my a$$. Of course, my sleeve will not let me pack too much junk in the trunk anymore thankfully but I try to educate my hubby on this concept.

Yeah, I too am a little hamster stuffing my cheeks with seeds and grapes. For awhile I liked to have some roasted pumpkin seeds and they are a high protein crunchy salty snack if eaten in small amounts. Bought a bag a month or two ago and most are still sitting there. well now they are stale. so out they go. when you eat so little its gotta be the good stuff - like the fresh crab we had last night. no stale pepitos for me! My former self would have eaten them anyway and probably faster in order to use them up. such backward thinking.

Even hamsters, while naturally chubby looking, maintain a reasonable weight even with excess food around. smarter than i was. diane
