poll: how many are not trying to lose?

I know there a lot of people further out who are still trying to lose or have had a regain they are dealing with & I am wondering how many of those folks are here.

myself I have stayed right around goal and consider myself in maintenance but what are the chances I will never have a regain? "slim", if you'll pardon the pun.

actually, I think it's good if there are a variety here - just trying to get a feeling of where everyone is at. seeing Lauren on the VSG forum again made me think of this. I wonder if this group is mainly for maintainers or for everybody who isn't a newbie.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

From what i have observed its a bit of everyone, which is great, those still on their way to goal those who have to get back down a few pounds and those who seem to stay at "about the same weight"

Im starting to think that because your not low carb you possibly dont see the same bounce in weight like i do??, if i eat carbs i will have a 5lb weight gain which is water weight from restoring my glycogen lvls.

so im wondering if i should try now coming off low carb if my weight would be more stable if i just eat a few whole grains ..... hmmmmm
The reason im thinking this is because other wise every time i allow myself "treats" im doing the yo yo dieting. again and although the weigh falls off in just a few days will it always be this easy?
So do you limit what you eat? is there anyfoods you dont eat?

I have seen alot of talk on the main board about weight regain in the 3rd yr is this true of VSG too?  does anyone know.

as for where i am. im in maintenece but need to get off 5lbs of christmas indulgence.. am back in my range but i want to get to the lower end of it.

From your experience, I actually get a different view.  I think you are really sensitive to carbs and you might gain if you re-introduced them in quantity.  Some people can handle them with no problem, some people like Ms. Shell and others just need to stay away.  You can experiment, but I would be careful.  It is so much easier to re-introduce carbs than to pull them out again. I do eat carbs, but I am not very sensitive to them, my main issue was volume.

yeah your prob right i dont have alot of room for carbs anyway, unless its junk which seems to go down too easy like pie or pumpkin bread... if its apple i can only eat 1/4 of a small- med one if its potatoes just a couple of fork fills with my meat...
I do miss fruit and it would be nice to have the odd slice of pumperknickle bread but for the most part most of my meals are protein only, ive added apple in as a snacks..

no, I do not limit myself at all but I do binge eat. I am thinking this means I am still in the honeymoon & fully expect it will be a problem further out.  don't know about 3rd year or not, but I am at 2 1/2 years and so maybe my honeymoon will end about then?

not sure about the low carb thing but I can tell you that I've known people who did low carb way back before Atkins - the Stillman Diet, which was low carb and low fat (and really, really dull plus you have to drink a ton of water) and they lost weight like crazy but each time they went on it they lost slower and slower and the regain got bigger an bigger.

considering the health issues involved, I think science really needs a better grasp of how dieting affects different individuals.

"but each time they went on it they lost slower and slower and the regain got bigger an bigger."

But that's true for all diets. At least that's what studies show.

I'm 14 months out, so I don't  consider myself a *newbie* or a *veteran* either. I guess I'm an in-betweenie.

I haven't made it to goal, I'm about 10 pounds away from MY goal, and about 19 pounds away from the goal my WLS surgeon set for me, which I personally believe is too low. I also am up a little right now (4 pounds) which is either holiday treats or TOM water weight, and it will come back down.

I do want to continue to watch it closely, both because I want to get that last 10 pounds off, and because I know I will regain. I've had binge eating issues in the past, and now that I'm "out" from surgery, I'm discovering that the same compulsion to over eat is still there - just in different form.

So...I lurk on this board, mostly and on the VSG board, looking for good ideas, tips, and cautionary tales.

I am maintaining my weight at 18 months.  I have maintained since about 6.5 months out.  This board is really for everybody who is no longer dealing with newbie concerns.  All are welcome and all have a great deal to contribute.  It is a very supportive and inclusive board.  If in the future I was to regain, this would be the place I would come to talk about it and seek advice.  I almost the OH entirely until this board was started (thanks Diane).  I hope you will stay.

I like that the group is active - lot of OH has slowed down lately.

this seems to be a good group!
