I love hunger!
I never get hungry either and I never really did before surgery either. I just ate because I was bored or something. Now, I eat on a schedule so when I do start getting that bored, wanna do something with my mouth feeling, I just remind myself that I have a feeding coming up!
I was hungry one time and that was when I woke up from my lower body lift and I was so excited to feel that feeling again, but they wouldn't let me eat till the next day and by then it had gone away : ( But I did eat 3 pitchers of ice throughout that night!

hunger is a little different for me now, pre surgery if i was hungry and did not eat then id get the shakes, and then start feeling nauseated til i did eat.
Now if i havent eaten for 5-6 hours i get hungry and it lets me know i havent eaten... but if i was busy id be able to ignore it til i had time to eat.
now if i get hungry its all over in a few bites anyway...
if i eat junk food that is a different hunger its a constant hunger that only dies down and then it raises its head so i start grazing but im not really hungry its head hunger or carb craving hunger... that is the hunger i hate the most.

I've often wondered how anorexics tolerate the hunger. I know that it's a control/mental issue with them, but to be hungry and to eat 1 or 2 bites (and then spit it out in some cases). I just can't imagine.
I do get hungry. I think it's an uncomfortable feeling. I've never lost my hunger, but like others, it certainly isn't as severe as it was prior to surgery. When my head thinks I'm hungry, but I'm wanting chips or something sweet, then I know it's not hunger - just a craving. True hunger is satisfied with any food. So if we choose the right foods to feed that hunger, we'll be successful in maintenance.
Like you, I'm still in awe of how good food tastes now. Especially the first bite. If I could prepare 6-7 different things for a meal and have 1 bite of each thing, it would be divine, because that first bite of something tastes so good. That would be impossible since I eat the same food over and over until it's gone, because it's hard to fix small portions. I can copy and paste several times on my food journal. LOL Even though the food isn't as tasty after being re-heated, my true hunger is satisfied with it.
I'm not sure I ever allowed myself to feel true hunger prior to surgery. I fed my pie hole all the time.
Interesting topic.

I know what you mean about anorexics, but it's just as weird and not understandable that I can and have eaten way past the point of full into discomfort and pain. that's pretty nuts, too.
I never felt hunger as a pre-op, either, always ate too much and started up again before I had time to get hungry.
that first bite thing is so true.
you know, Mary Poppins said "enough is as good as a feast" !!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.
PM me if you are interested in either of these.

When I was studying anorexics, what I found that for many "hunger = power/control = success" for them. Kind of like for some overeaters, "way too full = sedated = success"
For some of them its kind of nobody can make, me and for some of us is nobody can stop me.
PIE HOLE PIE HOLE PIE HOLE!~
Pie hole amuses me.
YES that's just what it's like. nobody can stop me. memememememememME!
and I like Pie Hole, too. also Cake Hole. donut hole makes no sense.
