Reflecting on Support Group Meeting-Long

I didnt go to Dr C for my surgery, but i repect him as a doctor who knows what he is doing, i think im yet to see a patient of his that does not do well..

I also look forward to his studies, he is one of the few in america that seems to do them.

so far im pretty happy with my results and i can only hope that my sleeve holds up over the rest of my lifetime.

It does worry me when i see people on the boards at a month out that can eat 3 oz of meat and 1/2 cup of mashed potatoes or 3 oz of meat 1/4 cup of veges and fruit at 4-5 weeks out...  I can not eat that much food now
.
we all long for this to be the final thing to work, and go through so much for it to work... it saddens me to think if they can eat that at 4-5 weeks what will they be doing at 1 yr out when things heal.. will they be white knuckling every meal.

I actually do miss my support group, but i think with having your surgeon at yours it maybe more structured ... but i guess with you guys having paid for it, it needs to be  and would make them worth attending

as for goals mine for now is getting my 10,000 steps in a day

It was a great meeting for sure, and I was happy to see you and Elina.  Lizzy I've been to the Petaluma area many times; my in-laws live in Windsor so I would pass there on the way to visit them which we do at least once a month.

If you do come down for the meeting you'll want to leave before traffic starts like 3pm otherwise 101 is terrible at that time.  I do hope you'll come some time as I'd love to meet you.

Elina has been extremely helpful to me and every time I see her tiny little perfect barbie body I get inspired.  She's given me some incredible tips on my menu where I was struggling coming up with recipes that kept my calories low.. genius!

I think it's so cool that you have a great support group - especially one where you surgeon will come out to talk and engage in discussions that are so fruitful. I've been to a couple in our area and they're very forumlaic, and they seem to trickle down into whose grandkids are visitting for how long, etc. I have two more hospitals I'm going to investigate before I give up on the group thing. If all else fails I'm going to call a therapist friend who can recommend at least an eating disorders group. I know it's not ideal but I know that group support durng weight loss is paramount. Friends & family who have not undergone WLS are clueless as to the physical and emotional ups and downs that we go through. Sometimes I feel like I walk around with half the information I need and/or a huge secret/feeling I need to blurt out.

Cool! I'm in Benicia, so Petaluma isn't that far. Let me know if you're going to the next meeting!

ok all you bay area people. Which is the best of the bay area lapsf support groups?  I live quite a bit north on the coast but get down to the big city 2 or 3 times a year for various things (mainly need a dose of civilization once in awhile) so one of these times when I drive down I will schedule it so I can come to one of the support groups and meet some of you all. But which one is best? See lots of folks going to the san jose group, know there is the SF group, heard about Petaluma etc. Which is biggest and most fun?  Dr. C does come up here and i suspect he covers the same topics but the group participation is important and ours is always small. In fact, there are quite a few of his patients in this area but they don't come all that much and I don't get why as its such a great resource. Anyway, which group is best? You may see a blue hippo there one of these days. Diane

Well....... It's really no contest.....

I've been to both..... and San Fran can be good....

But..... There are more folks from OH that go to San Jose and San Jose tends to get a bigger crowd.

Well, i've only been to the  S.J. one so Of course,   I feel it's the best!  The "information" part is from 6:30 -7:30 W the support part for the last hour.  I show up for both to be a VSG cheerleader for newbies. I like that I can pick Dr. C's brain for a couple of hours. (and I do ask him things that are of concern to me, sometimes before or after in private)  The regulars are Mac madame, sublimate, Frisco, Elina, me!  (and 3-4 others who are on OH,but i don't know their OH names, and I don't want to use their real names) Others come sporadically,  but it is not a big group. ( they are a fun, informative,  supportive and successful group that help inspire, and educate me W/ their  wisdom!  On 10/09 i went to my first meeting "sleeved" I met Mac Madame then and was amazed at her story/success,,,,,,I asked her "why was she so successful?" (and now an "Ironwoman")  she gave me the usual,  protein firs****er,  low carb, exercise,  blah blah blah.....but the last thing she said was ....."and coming to this group!"   So it is one reason I still go.  I feel it is important to stay on track/accountable, and to pass along my experiences etc. to others. (like many have done for me!)  So i feel ANY group can be worth it, cause there may be only 1 person,  or bit of advice from them that helps you along the way.  It is also great to be in a group of "like" minded individuals who know what you're feeling/experiencing.  It would be great to see/meet you  one day Diane.
