VSG Maintenance Group
What's your experience been with support groups?
I love my support group. It's run by the bariatric nurse where I was banded, but he is doing more and more sleeves these days. Everyone is so supportive. We have guest speakers all the time, and often the doctor will come to the meeting to answer questions. We are like a big happy family. I have been going for almost 4 years now.
As you "see" me here quite OFTEN I come on OH for my online support. In addition I had my surgery at Kaiser Harbor City. We meet once a month on the 2nd Tuesday. I'm hit and miss with the meetings but last month decided I needed a little more IN person accountability. It's run by a Nutritionist and since the sleeve is gaining in popularity among the Harbor City doctors we have a mixed group now. I also with the California Forum meet up once a month on the last Saturday of the month for our "support" group. Really just a bunch of girls who have had WLS enjoying our morning coffee together.
I believe you need whatever you need when you need it. I keep in touch with things like support groups because literally no matter WHAT the situation someone there is either gone through it or is wondering the same thing you are. You are NEVER alone dealing with a situation no matter how alone you feel.

The support group at the hospital where I had surgery hasn't worked out for me. They mostly focus on pre-op stuff, and also mostly on the band and RNY... I am content with the support I get on here though!
I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!
"People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within." - Ramona L. Anderson
