Hi Dianna2,
Yep, I had my gall bladder removed 11 months after my VSG surgery. I didn't have to do anything special before or after, but I had a different surgeon other than my VSG surgeon, so I'm not sure if that made a difference. I was having gall bladder attacks that would put me on the floor in a fetal position and taking vicodin to get through it. They removed my gall bladder and I had a couple of attacks just after which is normal due to residual sludge passing through. This initally confused the surgeon and my PCP so they did an MRI and CT scan to see what else might be going on. My calcium was higher than normal, not that much, but they took me off calcium and we are gonna watch it. I wasn't thrilled about having another surgery, but the pain wasn't that bad, I was just more tired this time.
All is good today. By the way, you are gorgeous and welcome to this board. You are an oldtimer......and looks forward to hearing your experience in this journey....Love ya!
Hi Sassyscorpio,
I came across your post and I noticed that you are a patient of Dr. Aceves. I am also a patient of Dr. Aceves. I had my surgery about 3 weeks ago and everything went fine. I'm healing pretty good, but for the past week or so, have been having some unfamiliar sharp pains all over my abdomen.
The pains are mostly on my right side, but sometimes on the left, sometimes high or low on my abdomen. The pain comes and goes, but I notice it during various activities. I thought it was from eating too much at once or eating the wrong foods, but it happens even if I eat gentle foods that I am allowed to have at this time, or even when I'm not eating at all. The pain isn't bad, just sharp pangs or shooting pains, sometimes an occasional cramping feeling here and there all over my abdomen, even sometimes in my back and sides. I contacted the post-op patient coordinator, and she said it could be my gallbladder, and if the pain persists I may need to have it removed. Yikes! Scary! I don't have insurance, and I'm not working right now, so going to the hospital is not a good option for me. I wanted to know how did you know you needed your gallbadder removed? Did you go to a doctor here for a check up after VSG? Where did you get your GB surgery? If you could share your experience with me, I'd be so appreciative. This news has me pretty worried at the moment. Thank you! -truvioletI had mine out decades before my VSG. I had it done OPEN and boy did that hurt!
Anyway, I don't see any reason to be on liquids afterwards. I'd get a second opinion on that one. It seems like needless torture.
The only thing you need to look out for after is that you might not process fats as well so eating a high fat meal might give you diarrhea or oily stools.
