what's the best way to drop a few lbs?

I gained about 6 lbs from celebrating my brithday for about a week straight. Everyone wanted to take my out to dinner whi*****luded cake and ice cream for dessert. Then I got into the Halloween candy.

i was going to do a few days of protein shakes but I am so anemic I think I need the meat. I will definitely drink them for breakfast like I have for the past 4 years.

What suggestions do you have so I can get rid of this gain? I've never had trouble before. It always came right off after going back to the protien first rule, but this time it's being stubborn. Even Greek yogurt has a lot of carbs if you buy the ones with fruit in it.

I guess chicken breast is the way to go since it's low fat.

Also how do you deal with the constipation that comes with low carbing? i take colace and miralax but I'd rather eat some higher fiber foods. Any suggestions? thanks!

good question, for me i did a protein shake day yesterday and lost over 1lb this morning, today ive had two protein shakes and may have ham for dinner.

I think most of the gain is from eating carbs and gaining the water weight from the glucogen we grab when we eat carbs...
I notice i lose better if i eat lean steak, no salt LOL.

i think lean protein and keeping your calories lower than what your burning is prob the answer... i will watch with interest what others do.

simple carbs - like cake, sugar - make be feel bad.

sugar free foods also make me feel bad and eat more. I get very hungry when I eat products that are sugar free.

I like complex carbs with both protein and full fat - satisfies me.

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

It's simple but not easy.  If you gained a few pounds and wish to lose them quickly, follow this rule.  Eat only low-fat, dense protein three times a day and low carb. veggies as much as you want.  Drink plenty of water or tea and do not snack.  If you do this for a few days, you will drop the pounds.  It's not much fun, but nothing beats it.

I'm gonna try that..... not much different than I'm used too....

I may cut the portions down a little also....

I just got my one year labs back and need to see Dr. C for my one year check-up

I'm hovering at 163-165....... I'd like to weigh in at LapSF at 160lbs. (the lowest weight of the range he gave me)

I'm hoping my maintenance range will be between 160 and 165

You may want to try the plain greek yogurt and add your own splenda or sugar free jams or flavored syrups. That works well for me.
The constipation can be an issue for sure which is part of the reason I do not do very low fat which makes the constipation worse for me.  Miralax = mirapoops in my world.  Grapes also work well for me as to raisins and prunes.
I agree with the other posters, perhaps rather than relying on protein shakes going back to protein first food meals would work best over the long haul
Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?

I too am wanting to drop 6---emotional eating since losing a dear friend. I too am severe anemic as well.

Maybe we could "buddy up" for a few weeks?

Truthfully, there is more iron in some of the protein drinks than there is in plain chicken.

Eggs are a good source, but eat them around 2 hours of your iron supplement.

Lean red meat, liver, oysters are better options for dense protein.

Spinach, beets, fortified cereal (if you can handle the carbs) are also good iron choices.

You know the iron rules? Get off coffee and tea--they both have a chemical that doesn't allow iron to absorb. Iron likes Vit C; so red meat with red bell pepper, or orange, etc is wise. Calcium does not allow iron to aborb properly, so no dairy within a 2 hour time frame of your iron rich food / supplements. Guess what, iron doesn't like high fiber to absorb properly, so steer clear of whole grain, etc within 2 hours of eating your iron rich meal / supplement. Oh, and iron supplements will absorb better on an empty stomach, so eat nothing for 2 hours before (can have water); then wait for 1 hour after before resume eating.

So my game plan, take all my supplements, get in 30 minutes of light walking (too anemic to push for cardio right now), get in all my water, eat iron rich foods, go back to journaling my food intake--and try to get calories at about 1100 / day with carbs between 60 - 80 and protein at least 80.

I am right there with you in the same holiday/celebration boat.  We returned yesterday from 11 days on a cruise and at Walt Disney World.  I walked my butt off--even including intentional morning walks around the lake to ensure plenty of walking. Still, I ate what I wanted, and it paid me back in extra pounds.  I am up eight pounds as of this morning.  I know some will shed from the typcial water I always gain after travel.  But, I need to get serious and ensure I get it all off and more as I'm still about 15-20 pounds from my goal.

I plan to go super-low carb and incorporate my Premier Protein Drinks on some meals to make sure my calories stay low too.  I hope to see results by next week.
