Remember when and the good ol' days
I drank my protein shake this morning on autopilot (as I was getting my daughter ready for school) and realized how quickly I drank it. I then remembered when I was really early out and it would take me 2 hours to drink a shake. My, how things change.
I also recall going through a period where I would just forget to eat. Yeah, not so much anymore.
So, I thought it would be fun to reflect on how things have changed from your early sleeve days to now - both good and bad. I'm still relatively early out and love to hear these sorts of things from vets!

I always ate on a time schedule, so never forgot about the eating.
Only thing that's changed so much is - I do not need to set the timer to gauge the time before meals, or after so I can remember when I need to start drinking again!
I could drink water, have soups, drink a shake down in no time flat then too. I really had no issues at all with the whole eating/drinking thing. Honestly the most challenging habit was just the stopping drinking. I used to eat my meals and have them refill the water a couple of times and drink 2 or 3 diet cokes.
Guzzlah!!

It was not a really big deal to me, like it seems to be some other folks. I guess I was just at the point where I was so willing to do WHATEVER!!! Eat raw armadillo, sing naked in the street by the light of the moono, whatever! I would do it and I was not going to ***** about it! No way no how!
My husband is the same, a big mealtime drinker and is the same weight/size he was in high school. Freak. :}
Anything I drink I tend to drink fast. I am not sure why but I only half joke that its because in my head I hear my mother's voice saying "Hurry up and drink that before you spill it!!" heh.

I totally know what you mean about being willing to do anything!!! I was the same way!
I see posts sometimes from pre-ops where they are ALREADY complaining about "having" to give up rice, or bread, or whatever. I just shake my head and think, man, they aren't ready for surgery. Just my opinion, of course! heh
I was ready to give up anything to finally end my struggle with my weight. Even beer, and that's HUGE for me. Beer was my best friend.
eta: BTW I just made your mexi-mash. Mmm mmm good. Love it. I'm gonna hurt my husband if he keeps eating my cheddar cheese, though.

The good ole days for me was the "honeymoon" stage :)
I was so motivated.
I just posted that I received "The Gastric Sleeve Book" yesterday.
Using it as a tool to re fuel my sleeve experience !!

Hi Mandy,
In the beginning I was obsessed with my diet, this site and my scale. I ate 300-600 cals. a day, spent all my time reading every post possible, and weighed myself twice a day. OK, I was a little obsessive. Not so much anymore, I eat whatever I want but I try to eat protein first most of the time, peek at this site once in a while, and weigh myself once a day. When I think back to my early days out of surgery, I realize that I was a woman possessed. Part of me worried that when the novelty wore off, I would not be able be maintain, but so far, that has not been the way it has worked out. If I had to do it over again, I think I would still do it the same way. I think I really had to be focused to make it happen.

Those early days seem like only yesterday yet is just short of a year. I was fortunate to have a really easy surgery and recovery with minimal pain and problems. the worst part was drinking the protein drinks and getting the protein in. Hated most of the drinks I had. Took awhile before I found some better ones and learned to doctor them up. Can remember sitting and staring at a glass of nectar choc truffle and thinking "yuck, how am i going to get this down"? . Water wasn't so bad as I took a med that gave me a dry mough so i was always sipping anyway. off that med now so i should probably work more on fluids. Remember my first real food which was a scrambled egg and it tasted so good and i was able to eat the whole thing! 6 hours later i decided to eat another one. was stuffed after two bites and kept eating. spit it up. learned that lesson. A big dissappointment was when i got to mushies i thought i could ditch the protein drinks but soon discovered there was no way i could consume enough protein without it. So i just bit the bullet and expanded protein drink horizons. Really glad I forced myself to do the best I could with the protein early on as I am convinced it resulted in minimal hair loss later. That and the fact that my rate of weight loss was slower than many.
So now I don't have too many protein drinks but do mix powder in some sf pudding for a protein jolt. tastes pretty good. Made semi frozen smoothie kings for awhile but its cold here now and frosty drinks don't appeal. gonna work on a warm coco protein drink since i don't want to buy the nashua stuff all the time and have kind of gotten tired of it. So a typical day is cottage cheese or eggs (2) for breakfast, a single serving tuna cup for lunch with maybe some almonds, and a dinner of chicken, fish or beef of maybe 3 or four ounces plus a few veggies. later in the evening i like a hot mug of skim milk. a sweet candy snack to me is grapes. love the things. And i brought home a big stash of trader joes sugar free low carb chocolate which is quite good. but haven't hit it yet. plan to have a couple of squares a day if i can manage. Cooking is working out well as husband is low carbing these days so meat and veggies are what he gets so we eat the same thing but he just eats a larger portion. unfortunately, he doesn't like as many vegetables as I do so range is a little limited. While I do long for sweets sometimes its no where near the frenzied cravings I used to have and while I am bound to slip up once in awhile, i think I can eat like this long term. Feels great. D
