Am I hot or am I not?

Anybody experience repeated swings in temperature? Seems like one minute I am chilled and the next I am hot and then I am cold again. I live in a cool climate so always dress in layers. Am years past "the change" but can't fathom why these temperature changes go on and have for months. Just me? I did go through a cold phase a few months out but that seems to have passed to this new alternating temperature universe. And I don't adjust the thermostat.  D

Hi Diane,
I have exactly the same problem. I am 44 so I thought it might be "the change" but apparently my lab work says it's not that time yet. I seem to constantly be opening a window or getting another layer to put on. I have no idea why. So, yes it happens to me but no I can't help you with any answers as to why.
By the way thank you so much for setting up this board. As a 'vet VSGer' I had many people from the VSG board PM me about what to do when they have lost all of their weight and what will their lives be like when they are eating to maintain. It is great that now we have an array of people's experiences to review with. I promise I will try and do my part to keep this board active.

Oh yeah -- freezing one minute, put on sweater, burning up the next, take off sweater, ad infinitum!  Then my face will be on fire, but my hands and feet are freezing.  Then my NOSE, hands, and feet will be freezing, but my trunk will be roasting!  It is a constant adjustment :-)

All the hormones that are in fat cells and those fat cells shrunk.  The little buggers just don't know what to do, so they tease us all day long.  I talked to my PCP about it last week and asked about short term hormone therapy.  She explained how it works and if I start taking them now, the hot flashes would go away, but would start right back up when I stopped taking them.  So I opted out and  will live with it.   Maybe it's a price we'll always have to pay.  I live in Iowa.  The seasonal changes aren't supposed to happen on an hour to hour (or minute to minute) basis.   UGH!

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

I find I'm often cold since losing weight. I guess I lost my built in insulation.

I do not experience it so much, but when I do, I have found the addition of a scarf around my neck seems to regular my temperature without so much dressing and undressing.

I had a longer post (surprise, I know) but OH ate it).

Post that answer in 30 words or less, B!

Interesting topic ... something that has been on my mind a lot lately.

I'm 41 and don't seem to be going through "the change" yet.  I am having a terrible time at night - waking up in a sweat, but then chilled from it when I remove blankets and such.

Not really sure what to attribute it to ... surgery was in January ... and this just started about 2 months ago.

During the day is completely different ... I am ALWAYS colder than those around me.

Any ideas?

(And by the way Diane - I'm sure you are HOT! )

Revision from Sleeve to DS (with re-Sleeve) on 10/10/17. Slow and steady ...

Google Perimenopause.  It's an evil pre menopausal stage that you can go through for years before menopause.  I went through it for 7 years starting at age 40

yep, the night sweats are the worst. i go to bed in flannel nightgown with a sweatshirt over it. And have this separate little blankey thats a furry throw that i like to have around my face and shoulders. but at some point in the night i wake up hot and get rid of the sweatshirt and blankey. then get cold again. so odd. and as mentioned I am well past the change. I think it has something to do with having less estrogen because fat cells are full of it  and we have less now. still you would think it would be a more constant temperature thing. I have a friend who has been having terrible night sweats that wake her up. she is not a barriatric patient but is undergoing cancer treatment. she was prescribed lexapro, not as an antidepressant but for the night sweats. she says it helps.

My husband and I were always polar bears (he still is) and we moved from the air conditioned midwest to the pacific northwest to get away from the heat. well i still prefer the cool glorious summers here but have just got to layer up a little more in the winter. small price to pay for regaining my health. Off to Kmart for more cotton sweatshirts since i can't stand acrylic stuff. thats another sweat inducer.  D
