I am SO SICK of being hungry all the time!!!
I'm not sure how many of you can relate to this, but I am getting so sick of being hungry all the time. Before surgery I only had to worry about eating 3 times a day. Now I'm hungry every 2 hours, so I feel like I'm thinking about food all day. I have to worry about addressing my hunger 8 times a day instead of 3.
It makes me feel like my life revolves around food- getting hungry, deciding what to eat, over and over. I wanted to worry LESS about food, not MORE.
I have this problem when I am at work and have too much time to think about food. When I am home or running errands and keeping myself busy, I am ok. I think it takes way longer to change habits than people think. I still think about food a lot, but the difference is now, when I am craving that slice of cake, it only stays a craving, and I reach for the fruit (most of the time) ha

Whatever you do is it truthful, necessary and kind?
I started eating fattier meats rather than "lean" meat and that seemed to help me a bit, but sometimes i still have days i still get hungrier sooner.
I have also done where my main meals are just dense protein so your snacks could be vegies, fruit, or yogurt, but my main meals are just dense protein to hold me over longer. and if i get hungry other than that i have found drinking a hot drink works as well to full me up rather than having a cold one.

I suggest finding some hugger calorie, lower volume foods so you are getting more calories per meal. This should keep you longer so you are only eating every 3-4 hours.
Nuts do this for me as do protein bars.

not sure whats going on here but the only thing i can think of is to up your protein and to get more dense protein at each meal. Since you are a lapsf patient, call Amy and see what advice she has. Everybody is different and we all have days where we feel like you do sometimes but it seems like it shouldn't be a constant thing. how much can you eat volume-wise at a meal? more than a half cup? sorry you are having this issue. D
Diane,
I can eat 4 ounces of dense protein, 8 ounces of cottage cheese, and unlimited amounts of slider carbs.
I haven't spoken with Amy. To be honest, I pretty much feel like my sleeve is going to be a failure. I don't think it's small enough, and I don't think enough of the ghrelin is gone to have good hunger control. Knowing Dr C he would probably tell me to my face that I am out of luck, so I've just avoided going back to the office.

Hey Jen......
Man... I totally feel your frustration after reading your posts here.
- Are you still at goal or have you gone up any?
- Have you been eating increased amounts of carbs? I'm finding the days after a higher carb day I get stronger hunger faster.
- I think you should give Dr. C and Amy a try....... It's free.... or I should say... you paid for it.
- We all (recent lapsf patients) have 32f bougie sized sleeves.
- Have you been exercising? exercise is suppose to curb appetite for a while.

Hi Frisco,
I definitely find exercise curbs my appetite, the other thing that helps is hot tea.
Since I hit the 1 year mark I can definitely eat more food. 4 ounces of dense protein instead of 2 ounces. Although I feel like the frequency when the hunger returns is more of a problem than the amount I can eat at a sitting.
I've gained 10 pounds since June but I can't bear to update my ticker. I keep trying to find a solution and anything to avoid admitting long term this is not going to be a success.
I'm a little confused about the carbs. I have always avoided them because they seem to stimulate hunger. But they also give me a more "satisfied" feeling after eating. After reading the Thin Commandments book I'm wondering if I should incorporate things like low carb tortillas and bran crackers. The book definitely confused me.
I do have some good days, when I'm able to go for walks, drink tea, and keep the hunger in control. But it's a lot of work and it seems to keep getting harder. I mean, long term, I have a family, and a job, and I just can't devote that amount of time and energy every single day to keeping my diet on track.
I'm really grateful for this maintenance board. The main VSG board is just full of people in the honeymoon period when things are so easy. They have no concept that at some point, this does require work. I'm getting a lot of good advice from those of you farther out, working out all the maintenance tricks. I need all the help I can get to figure this out!
