a new neurosis

Ok, am having a minor issue here pertaining to difficulty in getting rid of all the old fat clothes. Now I am not a packrat (though i am married to one) and have a mother who was a borderline hoarder whose house i will have to deal with someday. So while i like to keep useful things and don't object to moderate clutter, I definitly like to get rid of stuff that is no longer useful and went through major home downsizing a few years ago and found it quite liberating.

So why am I having trouble parting with all these fat clothes?  I had sorted out a bunch of them a few months ago. And since brother recently bought me a lot of new stuff, i need the room in the closet. Have washed things and folded them with the idea of having them nice for the shelter or other charity and a small stack of decent things that a plus size consignment shop might take. But there are a memorable things that there is no way i can ever wear again and just can't seem to let go of. And even the stuff i really want to get rid of i am having trouble getting myself to just haul it out. Its all stacked in the guest room and guest coming for thanksgiving. Anyone else have trouble parting with clothes? I should say they are generally not fancy nor expensive so why is this even an issue? as Homer would say "Doh"    D.

I've been selling clothes all summer. I put an ad in a free paper here where everyone here sells
stuff.

It's taken my nearly 4 years to be willing to get rid of stuff. I was so sure I would just gain the weight back and need it again. Some of it has hardly been worn when I was really dropping sizes fast, so I didn't want to just give it away. I don't have any real attachment to any of it. I am amazed at how much I still have left even though I've sold a lot. When you go from a 3x to a small, that's a lot of clothes!

I got rid of most of my big stuff but the sizes 10 and below i still have not sure why, im in a 4, part of me thinks if i can ever afford plastics i might need bigger pants for the swelling, but that is just an excuse i can always buy one pair of draw string pants in a larger size for that... maybe i need more time in this size to know im not going to bounce back into a size 6 or 8 im not sure what it is ... but i have the clothes they no longer in my closet i have packed them in a suit case... hmmmm strange.

I got rid of everything with the exception of 2 dressy shirts that are nice and gauzy and flowy, and will wear them over a cami around the house and such. Mostly as soon as I was out of a size, OUT it went.  I had saved clothes and grown back into them before, I was working on doing everything differently than before, because I was not going to end up back where I was.. like before.

MAYBE just put it in the back seat of the car!  And one day when you are feeling svelte in your million dollar buttloving jeans - drop them past the women's shelter!!  AND THEN ZOOM AWAY FAST AS YOU CAN (but still following the speed limit, you know!!).

you are right of course Lady. I will have to do a drive by and fast download. maybe whats troubling me is making sure they go somewhere useful. so silly. plenty of places can use the stuff and even if the clothes are beyond usable they can be sold by the charities for rag content. ok, gonna pack the car TODAY.  d

I had the same thing with some of the dresses that were my favorites that even at my top weight I really still felt pretty in.  I had to wait and find someone that I liked who I KNEW would really like them/need them/appreciate them.

I dunno.. maybe because I felt like they had helped me feel prettier than I felt for a while, I felt the need to be good to them?

Who knows!!

But, definitely a women's shelter and especially if there are work clothes in there!  Its so hard for the ladies to get decent work clothes to even go out and find a job in!

You are doing a good job girlie!  I *am* proud on you!

I found it to be hard at first, but now - out they go!  I kept a few things as reminders.  What amazes me is that I pick up a size 28 and my mind immediately thinks "OMG, that's HUGE".  Didn't look huge when I wore that size.  LOL

Some people might not support my WLS decision.
Those people remind me of slinkys. Not good for much but it would would bring a smile to my face if someone pushed them down the stairs.

yep, just packed up 4 laundry baskets of 2x and other large stuff. found some pants with price tag still on them. most is not that nice of stuff but wearable so it will go to the mental health center and i guess i will see homeless people around town wearing my old clothes. oh well, best that someone can use them. found some things i had forgotten about. bye bye to those for sure.

At my heaviest, I refused to buy new clothes.  After my surgery, I literally didn't buy a smaller size until my existing clothes  fell off.  I started my surgery a 20, I had some clothes in size 16 that I had kept just in case I ever succeeded on another diet. I wore those, then bought 1 dress size 12 for my parents' 50th wedding anniversary.  I then bought a couple of pants size 8 to go to work.  By then my sister-in-law started giving me her clothes that she outgrew, while trying to convince me to go shopping.  Well, after that, I discovered how much fun shopping could be!

I am now a size 2 and have been at this weight for over 1 year.  Guess what I got rid of this past weekend? Yep, my size 8 pants.  I was just holding on to them because I still can't believe that I have lost this weight and it's going to stay off.  I keep thinking I will need those pants back.  Why do we do this to ourselves??  Well, it's a process!
