learning about slider foods
well i learned about slider foods tonight by personal experience. As a member of a cooperative art gallery I work at the art opening we have once a month. there is wine and hors d'oevres with special ones for the gallery staff. geez it is hard to stay away from that stuff and you sure can eat more of it. this is stuff like little cubes of cheese, whole grain crackers and hummus dip and stuffed mushrooms. not exactly the worst thing in the world but not ideal either. and i have to mind the cash register right next to where all this stuff is. and of course had that glass of wine. totalled up to the most calories i have had in a few days short of a year. 1240. guess nothing horrible will happen from that but i am gonna have to find a way to deal with these art opening munchies because I have to do this duty every month. always had a weakness for the yummy type of stuff served at ****tail parties (even though i don't like ****tail parties - just the eats). weird thing is i didn't feel stuffed . wrote it all down in my food journal and guess i'll just do better tomorrow. but how can i be stuffed from three ounces of tuna and later eat what seemed like a much greater volume of hors d'oevrves? go figure. D
*chuckle* I think alcohol massages up and relaxes our muscles (at least our drinking arm muscles ) and the rest of that stuff, well, just sma**** up and add a little liquid and it turns into a nice runny paste.
I can eat googobs of all of those things. If its not dense meat alone, I still have an incredible capacity.
I had wished I was like those folks who can only eat 3 or 4 chips, cheetoes, or whatever and be gill stuffed, but that is just not my reality - so I am going to save my wishes for something like - the lottery! :}
Before we go out to noshy things, if I have already had my noshystuff quota for the month/week/whatever, then I eat something before we go and do not start noshing until the evening is almost over. Keeps me from going into noshing overdrive!

Talk about slider food!!! I can hardly eat 2 oz of dense proteins but yesterday at the movies I just ate mindlessly all of a small popcorn... That is 7 cups!!! My stomach usually restraint to 1 1/2 cup... I think it is because I ate it slowly, but anyway 7 cups is freaking big!!
I agree that what helps is eating a good meal in advance, or at least some good proteins, it could help limit the munching...the movie was at 6 and I didn't have time to dine before going...Bad idea!

Boy, you are so right! I wish our sleeves worked better on these foods. Sliders are something I struggle with too, so I try to avoid them during the week. I don't think there's any harm in enjoying them upon occasion though.
We' re very social people and every weekend we have one get together or another. Plus, every Sunday is family dinner at my home where I will have anywhere from 6 to 20 people over, and my meals include all of those wonderful sliders, starting with hors d'oeuvres and ending with dessert, intermingled with wine! I decided about a year ago that I would enjoy my weekend, trying to be mindful, but enjoying the foods, whatever they might be. I use the week to get back within my maintenance goal. So every Monday morning I have a weight bounce that I work on for the rest of the week to bring back.
And the other poster is soo right! Popcorn is evil! It goes down like air!

I just have rules for parties like this. I let myself have 1 of everything that looks good but try to limit the volume overall.
Also, I don't worry about it so much. If I over-eat at the party, then I just am more strict the next day. This works most of the year but the Holidays can be tougher as there are many more days of possible indulgence.
But, I don't drink at these things. I think that helps a lot. My experience is that alcohol increases my stomach capacity somehow.

I do like Mac does...eat what I want then tighten up my belt for a few days after. And guess what, that's what my naturally skinny daughter does too! If she has a piggy day or two, then she watches it for a few days after. And she's 5'8 125...after a baby!...hate her, lol. I'd actually never paid much attention to her eating habits until after I hit my maintenance. Then one day I asked her how she managed to stay so thin when I see her eating fattening things and that's when she told me that she balances things out by alternating fattening/non fattening foods. So if she eats a hamburger for lunch, then dinner for her will be soup or a bowl of cereal or something. And she says it's not always easy to make that lighter choice, but she makes herself be accountable. Now my other daughter is like I used to be...eats one fattening meal after another and guess what she weighs...250ish...same height.
