in those first weeks after surgery, my lifes goal was to get to the point where i didn't have to drink protein shakes everyday. these days i have one maybe every other day. surgeon says i should still have 70 g protein a day FOREVER. well, not quite hitting that but doing alright and dont see how i really can without a shake once in awhile. fortunately have found a few that taste ok and now that its not the only thing i get to eat and can add a bit of fruit, they are not so bad. what do you guys do? D

I absolutely hate protein shakes and bars ... I do anything I can to stay away.   I just have a list of go-to items that I know I can eat if I am low on protein for the day.

Not a magic list, but it works for me:
*  Light String Cheese - 8g of protein for 60 calories (This is one of my main go-to foods!)
*  Oh Boy Oberto Pepperonic Sticks - 11g for 110 calories
*  Carbmaster Yogurt - 12 g for 80 calories
*  Jimmy Dean Turkey Sausage - 13g for 120 calories
*  I also freeze leftover meats in 2 ounce countainers & defrost/eat for a quick snack:

NEVER, I hate them also and right from the beginning, I had about 4-5 of them and decided there had to be a better way for me.

I never understood why I would have protein and calories in a drink when I could have it in FOOD.  I always felt that way about Juice, Regular Pop, etc. when I was dieting, why drink my calories when I can eat them...

I love food, I love getting all my protein from food, I eat protein first and foremost  in my eating plan and snacks...  My eating plan indicated I had to get 50-70 gr of protein a day, and to supplement with a shake if I could not get that.

I need at least 2 or 3 a day, since I malabsorb protein.  I can make my protein goals with food, but do not absorb all the protein.  Maybe after taking Bifera and upping my B12 then I will see on next year's lab that I do better - and that would rock!  But as for now? at least 2 or 3 per day - but I do not have them as meals alone, per se, they do not fill me up and tend to make me nauseous if I have them on a hungry tum.

Edit to add - those protein bars are just a candy bar in sheeps clothing for me!  :}

 Brandilynn, what makes you think you are malabsorbing protein? I thought our protein absorption was normal.
