Eid Mubarak my UAE & Middle East Friends.
Today is my 6 month surgerversary and I'm down 88lbs - 2/3rds of my way to target !
I'm LOVING my sleeve and really trying to work it.
It's been hard to keep hydrated during the summer, particularly during Ramadan but am now looking forward to it getting a bit cooler so that I can enjoy being out and about exercising in Dubai. (watch out for a mad out of control lady rollerblading in creek park when it gets a bit cooler !).
I hope that you are all doing well on your WL journey - whether you are at the start, middle or end of your journey.
Take Care

Topic: RE: What's your favourite High Protein Food ?
I got used to a small handfull of almonds as a nice protein snack,
liked hummous alot too,
fried my 1 egg with a touch of olive oil
when I felt like a hamburger I'd take small amount of chopped meat and cook in a non-stck skillet and wrap it in a nice piece of lettuce instead of bread.
A friend of mine was telling me one day, you should go down to the Fish Market in Deira, you can get some nice fresh fish down there. I kind of chuckled thinking, yeah, I'm driving down to Deira so I can buy some fresh seafood. My total purchase would have been about 3 shrimp.
I'm 20 months out now and still feeling really good about it. I can't remember any "old type" cravings that I just got to eat something since my surgery. Its good to be free of those old feelings.
Hope your doing well!

Topic: What's your favourite High Protein Food ?
Here's a list of my top high protein foods which I enjoy, please feel free to add your favourites :
Turkey - either ready cooked or I roast chicken breast, turkey bacon is ok too. Seems to be a bit difficult to buy sometimes, but Spinneys seems to have the most regular supplies.
Chicken - I always have a cooked chicken in the fridge for snacks and quick meals
(you can pick up these from most supermarkets, the best succulent chickens can be bought in Eat & Drink)
Salmon - fresh or tinned. I mix tinned salmon with low fat yogurt and add in some chopped up onion, I then eat it with cucumber, or shallow fry it for a salmon pattie
Eggs - all styles - I particularly like crustless quiches - great for a quick snack on the run
Protein Shakes - Nitro-Tech are my favourite - particularly the cookies & cream (yum)
Chilli - especially if home cooked and I add extra pulses - it's about 50% meat 50% pulses
Houmous
Pork - Waitrose make some lovely pork sausages and as I can only eat 1 it's a nice treat
Lamb - tasty !
Corned Beef
Grab & Go Ideas :
Crustless Quiche
Deli Turkey with salsa
Homemade beefburgers
Cheese Triangles (eg laughing cow light)
1/2 apple and peanut butter
Corned Beef Chunks (in a chilled container)
Chilli (in a heated container)
Small carton of milk
Small carton of yogurt
Small tub of houmous

Topic: Questions to Ask Before Surgery - please feel free to add to :
How many VSG's have you done?
Over what time period?
What complications have your patients had after surgery?
How long does the surgery take?
Do you oversew the staples?
What leak tests do you do?
What has to be done pre-op - eg tests etc
Do you require me to go on a pre-surgery diet
What does you do for follow up after surgery
How long will I be in hospital
What is included in the price - pre-op and post-op
What nutrition support is there
What are the post-op stages for food
How do you close up the incisions
What is the anticipated weight loss after surgery
What facilities does the hospital have if there are any unexpected complications
Will you meet the anaethesiast before surgery
What pain medications do they use after surgery
Will you have a catheter
When will you be expected to be mobile
How long until you can : resume normal activities, go back to work, exercise - walking, exercise - with weights in the gym, go swimming, take a bath
Is there anything he would suggest you do prior to surgery to get ready for surgery
What can you expect to do whilst in hospital - eg pre-surgery, surgery, leak test?

Hi - Welcome Patti - I am so glad that you have joined the Group.
One of the things I find about having surgery in the UAE is that you do not get the follow-ups which people in the States tend to have.
I know that I am struggling to find a nutritionist who understands this surgery - one told me to soak bread in milk so that I could eat it - when in fact I know I should be focussing on protein, then veggies and only if there is room take in some carbs !
Hopefully this group can help bridge that gap.
I'm still in the 'golden 12-18 months' phase so am planning on working this sleeve as much as possible to get as close as I can to my idea weight - will use this site as a great tool to help me to do this.
I'm still getting lots of restriction, can only eat small amounts so am benefiting greatly at the moment.
Well done on your weight loss - that's great.
Regards
Debbie

Hi!
I'm Patty and live in Abu Dhabi, had vsg 4 July last year, and so far everything is great. I haven't lost all my weight, but I have not follow any diet and just recently started going to the gym...
Oh! I'm 42 yrs old, starting weigh was 104 kg and now (last weight in was last month) I weight 79kg..
My surgeon was Dr. Safwan at Al Noor Hospital in AD, but I not longer see him, actually I'm thinking that I need to look for someone new to follow me up.
I still need to learn to eat healthy, and also I think my stomach is elastic cuz I really can eat everything! I do eat normally, but it depends of the day, sometimes i can swallow everything and some days i get full with no food at all...
My hair is falling like crazy and I'm thinking to do some mesotherapy cuz is starting to really worry me.
Well that's all folks! hope to read more from all of you.
Take care
Patty

I'll start the thread :
My name is Debbie, I'm 43 - have lived in Dubai for 14 months and am British. I'm currently taking a career break and am a HR Director when I'm working.
I had VSG and Gall Bladder Removal on 9th March 2010 at the American Hospital with Dr Paul Sayad. My surgery was difficult as my stomach was stuck to my spleen - so I had an unexpected 6 hour surgery. My recovery was great and quick. I had insurance for my gall bladder removal, and self paid for the rest.
I'm now 2 months out, have lost 42 lbs since surgery and 52 lbs in total (I lost 10 lbs in the few weeks before surgery because of issues with my gall bladder).
I'm enjoying working my sleeve, working out in the gym and doing exercise - have just played my first ever game of squash and also started roller blading !
I live in Dubai - in the Marina.
I record my food intake on myfitnesspal.com and have just broken a 2 week stall by upping my calories (never thought I would say that) and increasing my protein !
I'm looking for a nutritionist in Dubai who understands weight loss surgery and can give me some tips (so please let me know if you recommend anyone).
Patience is a virtue !

Please feel free to put what you want, but things that might be of interest include what stage of your weight loss journey you are at, how you are doing, who your surgeon is etc.
Thank you
