What's your favourite High Protein Food ?
Here's a list of my top high protein foods which I enjoy, please feel free to add your favourites :
Turkey - either ready cooked or I roast chicken breast, turkey bacon is ok too. Seems to be a bit difficult to buy sometimes, but Spinneys seems to have the most regular supplies.
Chicken - I always have a cooked chicken in the fridge for snacks and quick meals
(you can pick up these from most supermarkets, the best succulent chickens can be bought in Eat & Drink)
Salmon - fresh or tinned. I mix tinned salmon with low fat yogurt and add in some chopped up onion, I then eat it with cucumber, or shallow fry it for a salmon pattie
Eggs - all styles - I particularly like crustless quiches - great for a quick snack on the run
Protein Shakes - Nitro-Tech are my favourite - particularly the cookies & cream (yum)
Chilli - especially if home cooked and I add extra pulses - it's about 50% meat 50% pulses
Houmous
Pork - Waitrose make some lovely pork sausages and as I can only eat 1 it's a nice treat
Lamb - tasty !
Corned Beef
Grab & Go Ideas :
Crustless Quiche
Deli Turkey with salsa
Homemade beefburgers
Cheese Triangles (eg laughing cow light)
1/2 apple and peanut butter
Corned Beef Chunks (in a chilled container)
Chilli (in a heated container)
Small carton of milk
Small carton of yogurt
Small tub of houmous

Beef Cabbage Soup:
Ingredients
2 cups coarsely chopped cabbage
1 16 ounce can tomatoes, cut up
1 1/2 cups water
1 tablespoon instant minced onion
1 teaspoon instant beef bouillon granules
1 teaspoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 12 ounce can corned beef, broken into chunks
How to make Beef Cabbage Soup
In large saucepan combine chopped cabbage, tomatoes, water, instant minced onion, beef bouillon granules, sugar, and pepper.
Bring the mixture to boiling; reduce heat.
Simmer, covered, till cabbage is tender, about 30 minutes.
Stir in corned beef chunks; heat through.
Serves 4 or 5.
I got used to a small handfull of almonds as a nice protein snack,
liked hummous alot too,
fried my 1 egg with a touch of olive oil
when I felt like a hamburger I'd take small amount of chopped meat and cook in a non-stck skillet and wrap it in a nice piece of lettuce instead of bread.
A friend of mine was telling me one day, you should go down to the Fish Market in Deira, you can get some nice fresh fish down there. I kind of chuckled thinking, yeah, I'm driving down to Deira so I can buy some fresh seafood. My total purchase would have been about 3 shrimp.
I'm 20 months out now and still feeling really good about it. I can't remember any "old type" cravings that I just got to eat something since my surgery. Its good to be free of those old feelings.
Hope your doing well!
