Topic: Pre-Op Liquid Diet
So I have to admit, I think I'm more nervous about the 10 day liquid diet prior to surgery than the surgery itself! I'm scared I will fail.
Anyone have tips or a word of advice?

Love you too, Kelly!!!
Kelly is, for lack of a better word, my sponsor. She's been SO amazing through this whole process and has educated me, guided me, and advised me without stepping on any toes or pushing her thoughts on me. I call her the SUPERSTAR of bariatric surgery, because she is truly an inspiration.
I STRONGLY advise people to take advantage of her knowledge - I know I have. She is an amazing friend to me and I love her so much. I hope you guys find her being here useful!!!

That's my baby boy, Max. He just turned 2 last month. He is my world. Him and my husband certainly make my decision for surgery easier - they are both worth living for and living healthy!!!

Greetings!!
I hope you don't mind me joining - I had my surgery March 16, 2010 - but my best friend Jen - she joined and is awaiting her surgery date and I am one of her biggest supporters!! Love you Jen!!
I am Kelly - 45 years young - and I have NO regrets other than I wish I had made this choice sooner. I have my surgery on 3/16/10 and started my journey weighing in at 289 lbs on my 5 ft frame - I now hover between 132 and 137 and LOVE my life again!!
I am a mother to 3 wonderful daughters - ages 17, 19 and 20! They have been wonderful in supporting my decision as well. Jen was also one of my supporters, she NEVER once looked down on me for making this decision. I have many friends that did!
If you have questions, I would gladly try to help. I LOVE helping others on this wonderful, crazy journey! But, I do NOT impose my thoughts onto anyone - I simply share my experience, as everyone has a different journey - some have it harder than others! I can say, I have not had too many issues at all - the worst I had was Kidney Stones at about 6 weeks out - DRINK DRINK DRINK!!!!! Keep pushing tha****er - it is so important!
I too, had the RNY - but I eat just about ALL meats - I don't like the protein supplements, so I have to eat mine - I focus on HIGH protein foods - but I still have the occassional bread, pasta, wrap. I also have to treat myself to sweets - although my body does not process sugar well at all anymore, I have to really watch that part. But anyway, I am rambling and will say, I hope you let me stay with your group, I love making new friends that UNDERSTAND the journey!!!
HUGS to you all and talk to you soon!

I am having the Roux-en-Y. I leaned toward the sleeve but I was worried about the risk of leaks taking longer to heal. I think I also leaned towards the bypass because it's been done so much more than the sleeve, but that is me - More power to you for the sleeve!!!
Thanks for the encouragement! I am really excited and can hardly wait for my appointment on Wednesday. Can't believe it could be as early as July 31. Crazy! Definitely a roller coaster of emotions, but totally worth it. I will keep you updated and you do the same!!! I'm rooting for you as well ;-)

Oh Jennifer, how exciting. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm excited, scared, happy, sad---you know the feelings. What surgery are you going to have? I'm preferring the sleeve myself. Please let me know how you make out and when your surgery date is. Woohoo, I'm rooting for you.

Hi Mary! I too just joined the group. Congratulations on making such an important decision! I just finished all of my appointments. The only appointments I have left are meeting with the surgeon on Wednesday the 18th and the dietician on the 26th. I will find out my surgery date this wednesday after I meet with the surgeon!!! I can hardly wait. I was where you are at less than a month ago - it goes so fast! Congratulations again!

Hello ladies! So great to have a group for just us women! I don't quite have a surgery date but I meet with the surgeon next week and will have my surgery date before I leave the office! Looks like August! Anyone who is having surgery in August, I have created an August 2012 Surgery Friends group! Look it up and feel free to join!
Anyway, my story isn't much different than everyone else's so I will just keep it short. I hit rock bottom 2 years ago when I had a pregnancy from hell with gestational diabetes and awful preeclampsia. It all ended with my little guy coming far too soon, in the NICU for 3 weeks, and I had a horrible infection from the C-Section that kept me in the hospital longer than expected. I am ready to get healthy and live a normal life!!!
I am required to do a 10 day liquid diet prior to surgery and I will find out more about that on the 26th when I meet with the dietician. They will provide me with a food plan which will help, but I am nervous for the liquid diet. I know I can do it, but I also know it will be very difficult. I'm ready for this. I'm ready to be healthy and turn my life around. I look forward to sharing and receiving advice from all of you!!!
