Greetings!!

I hope you don't mind me joining - I had my surgery March 16, 2010 - but my best friend Jen - she joined and is awaiting her surgery date and I am one of her biggest supporters!!  Love you Jen!!

I am Kelly - 45 years young - and I have NO regrets other than I wish I had made this choice sooner.  I have my surgery on 3/16/10 and started my journey weighing in at 289 lbs on my 5 ft frame - I now hover between 132 and 137 and LOVE my life again!!

I am a mother to 3 wonderful daughters - ages 17, 19 and 20!  They have been wonderful in supporting my decision as well.  Jen was also one of my supporters, she NEVER once looked down on me for making this decision.  I have many friends that did!

If you have questions, I would gladly try to help.  I LOVE helping others on this wonderful, crazy journey!  But, I do NOT impose my thoughts onto anyone - I simply share my experience, as everyone has a different journey - some have it harder than others!  I can say, I have not had too many issues at all - the worst I had was Kidney Stones at about 6 weeks out - DRINK DRINK DRINK!!!!!  Keep pushing tha****er - it is so important!

I too, had the RNY - but I eat just about ALL meats - I don't like the protein supplements, so I have to eat mine - I focus on HIGH protein foods - but I still have the occassional bread, pasta, wrap.  I also have to treat myself to sweets - although my body does not process sugar well at all anymore, I have to really watch that part.  But anyway, I am rambling and will say, I hope you let me stay with your group, I love making new friends that UNDERSTAND the journey!!!

HUGS to you all and talk to you soon!

Kelly

 Love you too, Kelly!!!

Kelly is, for lack of a better word, my sponsor.  She's been SO amazing through this whole process and has educated me, guided me, and advised me without stepping on any toes or pushing her thoughts on me.  I call her the SUPERSTAR of bariatric surgery, because she is truly an inspiration.
I STRONGLY advise people to take advantage of her knowledge - I know I have.  She is an amazing friend to me and I love her so much.  I hope you guys find her being here useful!!!

Welcome to the group, Jennifer!  I too am Jennifer and I started my pre-op diet today.  Have to say it's been a little rought.  I caved and had a small bowl of cereal.  My pre-op diet is 10 days of 5-6 protein shakes a day and clear liquids such as coffee, tea, jello, broth, water, and crystal light.  So not much!  I'm definitely more tired than usual today - I was thinking about bed time at 7:00!

Stay in touch!  Not many people chat on here - was a little bummed about that.

My surgeon said the first three days are pretty rough but after about the forth day you get use to it.  Does your liquid diet have hot cereal on it? I don't want to suggest it if it's not on there, But was thinking if you wanted something a little thicker maybe cream of wheat/rice or maybe grits if (you like hot cereal of course).  While reading different post it seems pre-op diets vary depending on surgeons or clinics. Mine is 14 days of liquids, shakes and one protein bar a day.
I hope it gets better for you as days go on.
Good Luck!!!

Unfortunately it only consists of 5-6 protein shakes a day and a clear liquid diet consisting of coffee, tea, broth, jello, sugar free popsicles, and sugar free kool-aid or crystal light.  Wish I could have cream of wheat!!!  That comes a week after surgery.

It is definitely interesting to read how different pre-op diets are for different clinics.  I would think the best option would be a liquid diet not only to prepare you for what's to come after surgery, but they also point out that it helps soften the liver because you lose fat around your liver first.  Where are you located and what clinic are you going with?  I'm in Minnesota and I'm going through Park Nicollet.  They are a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery, so I just keep telling myself during this liquid diet that although others don't have to do it, Park Nicollet obviously has me doing it for a reason and they know what's best.

I will have a computer in the hospital so I will probably be on here the day after my surgery, which will be your second day on the liquid diet, so I'll check in to see how you're doing!  Are you on Facebook?  I'm on there under Jennifer Grady Peery if you want to friend me.

Talk soon!

I'm in Iowa and I'm going through the Mercy Weight loss & Nutrition Center of Iowa. They also are a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery. The diet I have to do includes protein shakes, meal replacement drinks, broth, tomato soup, v8, A.E. chocolate skim milk (with splenda), hot cocoa, tea, coffee, soy or almond silk, jello, yogurt 100 cal,Greek yogurt, pudding, applesauce, cream of wheat/rice,grits, Popsicles and crystal light etc. Everything of course is sugar-free and/or plain. They also have you eat one protein bar a day.
I was surprised with how much was on the list. The portions are smaller than what you would normally have in a regular diet.

We don't go on social sites so I'm not on Facebook. I would like to keep in touch on here if that will work for you.

Wow that is a big list!  I had some tomato soup today, which is technically not on my list, but figured it can't hurt much.  That's awesome that they too are a Center of Excellence!

Two days have been rough.  I keep counting down the days and can hardly wait for the day of surgery to get here.

That is totally fine to keep in touch on here!

Hi sorry I wasn't able to post anything yesterday. My Lil sister is 31 weeks pregnant and is in the hospital with a severe heart condition that they didn't find until middle of pregnancy and your not suppose to have babies with it because most moms die. So they are trying to keep her until they can safely deliver baby it's very scary and stressful.
On a different note how are you feeling?
