Topic: hi there!
hi to all you south puget sounders!
i am jeris - i had my VSG on 9/22/09, and as you can see from my ticker, it's working quite well!
i have been a pudger since i was about 8 years old.... i fell into the diet mode at 17 and fighting that dragon got me to 354 lbs... i finally decided to call in the 'nuclear strike' and take care of this once and for all.... my preliminary goal weight is 160, but i'm leaning toward 150, since i seem to have shrunk a bit in height... we'll see how i feel when i get there....
after a couple decades as a 911 dispatcher, i am currently a full-time college student at tacoma community college, finally getting my degree 36 years after high school... i will be graduating in 2011 as a newly-minted paralegal, and wls is all part of the plan so i can rock that power suit when i go looking for a job!!!
looking forward to meeting y'all..... maybe we can arrange some local meet-ups, just to get to know each other!

I do have experience in support groups and even more experience faciltating groups.
I was raised in a home where my brothers were both drug addicts so I attended Al-Anon for a few years.
I have attended several weight loss support groups. OA, TOPS etc.
I lived with a man for a few years who was in AA and NA and I attended those meetings with him four days a week for 2+ years.
Also, my best friend is a professional counseler and runs support groups for teens (so I can get her help with ideas)
At work I am a regional leader of a group of change agents and not only do I faciltate that group. I myself also run workshops with teams to help them improve thier work processes or areas. In otherwords I have factilated litteraly thousands of meetings or workshops and working with teams of people is something I feel God has gifted me to do.
I do believe in the engagement model where we all own this group together and all take a peice of it's success. All ideas are welcome and appreciated. More minds are always better than fewer. My role would be to help with some of the organization up front (but help would be appreciated and welcomed)
If everyone is open to this what I would propose is we find a time/place/date and then spend the first meeting draft our charter and develop our norms.
-Charters usually outline what our objectives are.
-Norms can be things like:
-Treat everyone with respect.
-Whatever we dicuss stays among us only (Not even shared with spouses)
etc...but we would come up with them as a team and ensure we all agree to them these are just ideas.

That sounds like a great idea. Why dont we just set up a 1st meeting and then we can discuss more what we want to do. So, have you ever been to a support group? What will be talking about? I guess maybe we can get together and we can figure it out I guess. I will do some research on it too.
So, do we want to start this in February? All I know after almost 2 years after my surgery, I really need to have support.

I live in Kent but could go anywhere in the area. I was thinking perhaps at a restaruant as funny as that may sound.. they usually allow groups like this to meet and have the space.
Or if people were open to the idea we could start at a public place and then move to each others homes and rotate homes? Just a thought?
Weekends and Thursdays are actually my best too. What about everyone else?

Well depending on where you live, maybe we can get a carpool going so everyone can attend. I think a group like this in our area would benefit all of us.

I would love to. I live in Renton. Do you have a place in mind? The weekends are best for me or on a Thursday evening.

I could certainly try, but I do not drive so that limits me quite a bit. SO I would have to find a ride, but if I could make it I certainly would be there.

Hi, I also had Dr. Oh at St. Francis. I had my RNY surgery on May 21, 2009. It's wonderful you are starting a group. We badly need one around the Kent area which is centralized for so many people.
Look forward to meeting you!
