Topic: Eco Drink - Vitamins & Electrolytes
Hey Runners,

I was at Costco the other day and they had this new product - Eco Drink Complete Multivitamin - Cost $19.99 for 30 packets.   You mix each packet with 16 oz water (I actually split the packet as it is too flavorful for me so I get 32oz out of each packet).

Calories 0 - but full of vitamins and electrolytes.  A lot more vits then G2 (which has calories) and Vi****er 0.  I do not consider this a bari vitamin replacement just a general vitamin/electro boost.  If you split the packet,  it works out to $.33 per 16oz serving - cheaper than G2 or Vi****er.  Plus it comes with a reusable bottle to help the environment - when you get too many bottles you can send them back and they will send you extra vit packets in exchange.

Raining in sunny California today - looks like I may have to hit the treadmill to get my 5 miles in this weekend.

Happy Running or Walking!
Carolyn

Topic: Nutrition and Dehydration when running
Hello Runners,

I ran my first 5K last May (and a few since!!!) and have been training for a 1/2 Marathon.  I run 3 times a week and add in some yoga on none run days.

A few issues - I can not drink while running - gulp to much air - I bought a camel bak which helps but still need to slow down to a walk inorder to drink.  I have been running intervals of 8 min run and 90 sec walk to make sure I drink enough. But I still am experiencing dehydration...  Has anyone overcome this issue.  I drink plenty after my run, but too little to late.

Bladder control???  - I am almost 2 years post RNY been at goal for almost 1 1/2 yrs and I still have bladder control issues - especially when running.  I am using a Pose Maximum incontinence pad but this is really frustrating, and embarassing when the pad simply does not hold enough....  I was really hoping this would resolve itself with weight loss....

Nutrition - what is everyone doing to make sure they get the proper nutrition before and while training for a big race.  I am considering going to a sports nutritiionist and have been looking on the bariathlete.com website.  Apparently there is only 1 bariatric sports nutritionist in California and she lives in SoCal where I am in NoCal.  I am thinking about adding in a protein shake on my long run days, a few hours before the run.

I consider myself an avid runner, now :-)  and would really like to see/hear from some of the other bari runners out there!!!  We are all so lucky that we CAN run now.  I know that before my surgery there were times when I could not walk so I treasure every moment on the pavement!

My Next Races -

March 13th - Los Gatos 10K
April  10th - Santa Cruz Half Marathon
May 14th - Sacamoto Slug Run 5K
July 24th - Warf to Warf 10K
Oct 30 -  Silicon Valley Marathon   ---- yes I am going for a full marathon by the end of the year.

Let's hear what everyone is doing so we can cheer each other along.

BTW, I bought the Nike+ sensor for my shoe and now that I have it working correctly absolutely love it!!!  tracks your miles, time, speed and downloads to the Nike+ site where you can set goals, get training plans etc.

A great motivator!

Have a good next run (or walk)
Carolyn

Topic: new to group

Hi,

I just found this group on the OH site. I had RNY surgery on 7/21/09. Just had my 6 month check up and dr. stated that my 1 mile walk during my lunch at work wasn't enough. He wants me walking at least 45 minutes at one time, he did state not to stop doing my 1 mile walk, just had another 45 minute walk in.

I am having trouble doing that as i get up at 530 am to go to work and don't get home until 7pm which means it is dark when i get up and dark when i get home. I don't have a treadmill, any suggestions??

YOU GO GIRL! Where in the city are you? I do Lake Montebello all that time. Let me know if you'd ever like to get together and "walk the loop."

Two runs in two weeks and I'm feeling awesome!  Today was a chip timed run sponsored by the City of Allen and I've got an official run time of 33:53.  I am sort of addicted and started parusing the running sites this morning to pick my next one.  Living in a large city, I've got one to choose from practically every weekend.  I think i'll commit to at least one per month and hope for an improved time.  Oh, it was 26 degrees this morning, too!

I weighed 313 pounds on December 1, 2008 the day of my RNY surgery and have lost 81%
of my excess body weight to-date.                                        Current as of November 1, 2009

First of all, let me start by saying that I'm more than thankful for this surgery. I really believe that it has changed my life, or rather saved my life.

Secondly, let me report that I walked my behind off this weekend with all the mall shopping and outlet hopping. I'm pooped. I got in some much needed exercise, and it feels good.

Can't wait to start reporting on my runs.

I had been training for the race which is 8 miles, but over the last few months could only get myself to about 3 miles, so I did the 5K instead and had no problems running the whole thing.  It was my first 5K that I ran instead of walking and it was exhilarating!!!! Next week I'm running the Rudolph Run in my hometown.  I think I'm becoming addicted to 5Ks.
