I am pretty much in the same boat as you are. I had my surgery 7/16. I am technically still on pureed but also have been having soft foods. I can only eat less than a 1/4 cup of anything. In fact this morning I only ate half a 1/4 cup. Some days are better than others. Yesterday I wasnt able to tolerate anything at all hardly and had a bad issue with some KFC potatoes, not sure if it was the gravy or what. I think this has been the hardest 3 weeks of my life!

I really miss food. More than I ever thought I would. I cant do protein shakes, they make me gag ugh! I sure hope this gets better with time.. everyone keeps saying "Oh your just a newbie it will get better".

Good luck on some new foods!

I am having a HUGE issue with food right now and was wondering if any of you have had this experience.

I am in the pureed stage and am running out of things to eat because once I eat something I cannot stomach it again. For example: last week I was given the okay to have egg salad and my mouth watered as I made it and enjoyed as I ate it...ONCE. Now the thought of egg salad makes me nauseous. Same scenario with refried beans, black beans, chicken salad, and even roast beef hash. I eat them once and can't stomach the thought of trying them again. AARGH...don't know what to do and i desperately need to stick to higher protein foods because I am also struggling with getting protein drinks down.

I agree! I am trying to get lots of protein from food, but its hard to get 60g in with 1/3 cup of a meal!

Hurray!  I got to start on pureed food today.  I have never enjoyed 2 tablespoons of refried beans so much in my life.   I can't believe how filing that dab of food is, either.

Yeah, I am sure you are right, plus I haven't been going to the bathroom as regularly as I am used to  :)

It was down a couple today--made me feel better.

I'm soooo confused...I haven't weighed myself since Thursday and I got on the scale today and had gained 3 pounds...what the hell? I was so disappointed...this brings all my fears to life! What if this doesn't work? What am I doing wrong?

I'm 9 days post-op and will be on 'full liquids' until day 11, when it switches to puree.  My Doc defines 'full liquids' as anything that can be sipped through a standard size straw.  (Yes, he's one of the ones that allows straws) - so the variety can be pretty good.  Mostly have been doing pureed soups and protein shakes and drinking lots and lots of flavored water.

Today I just discovered putting vanilla flavored protein powder in some decaf coffee as the 'creamer' - and it worked!  I'm really excited about that.  :)

Looking forward to getting to know all of us July 'babies'.  :)

Hi,

I had surgery on 7/19/10.  I am still having some pain but not horrible.  I think it would feel better if I hadn't already started working part time.  I am still on a liquid diet and I really don't like the protein shakes anymore.  They are too sweet.  I need to get through 6 more days of them.  Yuck.
