Topic: Goals, expectations vs. reality
So do you have any goals or performance expectations that you would like to see happen but don't dare to hope for, or don't realistically think you can achieve.

For example:
I would like to finish in the top 50% of the olympic distance event at WildFlower this year.
But when I look at the times from last year, I don't see it as being very realistic.  I probably won't finish in the top 50% of my age group let alone the whole event..  Yeah, yeah,  yeah, the first goal is to make it to the race, then to finish the race, but what I really want to do is to finish in the top 50%.

When I do my Olympic the real goal will be to finish without walking.  Barring an injury or equipment failure.  The same goes for my 70.3 later this year.  But in the back of a wishful mind there is always room for a little more.

Do you think that little spark of wishful thinking sets you up for disappointment?

Nothing yet... I will let you know when I need the info. Not sure about chat this Friday, I am ok with it, but I think we were going to try to have it every other Friday. People chime in if you want to have another on Friday!

I will be having surgery in Nov this year as well. Going to get my skin tits lopped off, TT and abdominoplast, and Extended TT. Not excited about the down time, but very anxious for the result...

Thanks Brian. I am still in the early stages of planning, but good to get the information gathered before seeing surgeon.

I had major major reconstructive surgery in March of 07 which was removal of the panni, abdominal wall was rebuilt, hernia repair and mastopexy on the chest (fancy word for man boob removal).  All in all, a 13 hour surgery (which is a credit to all my cardio work that I did prior so I could last for that long.)

First 3-4 days were pretty bad, won't lie, but at least I could walk after the 2nd day.  Recovery time for me was about a month of little to no activity, then i eased back into things and was back to normal after 2 months, though the abs were sore for about 3-4 months, he sowed them up TIGHT.

I wasn't a serious runner in 07, so i dunno about how much time to get back to real running, but i was doing 3-4 miles after 2 months.  PS is a major surgery and you will need a ton of time to recovery, so be prepared for it

my post-op journey is taking me to the plastic surgery junction. Most of my weight was in the stomach area and I am sure no amount of exercise will take care of that. Doing some research now, and need to plan on how I will find the money to pay.

Would be nice to hear from someone who has had this procedure done already.

Eh I learned a lot, especially about cold-er running. I usually don't like to run halves and fulls in below freezing but WHO KNEW freaking Orlando would have below freezing temperatures. It was hilarious going to a restaurant for dinner the night before and listening to people ask for them to turn the heat up only to find THEY DON'T HAVE HEAT!! LMAO

I learned a lot though. A lot from the folks I run with. A lot about my @#$% shoes. Etc. And in that it was good. It's what you make of your failures that makes you a success.
