Welcome! Sounds like you are doing great. You will have to let us know how your races go! Congrats on finding your inner runner again. I never had an inner runner until recently, LOL. Then she showed up out of the blue. I kinda like her though, so I'll keep working at it.

Topic: Introducing myself
Hi all,

I was really happy to find this group. I had VSG almost 3 months ago and one of my top 3 reasons for having WLS was to reclaim the runner I had discovered when I was 31 years old. I had been a fat kid, fat teenager ****il I discovered dexatrim), a yo-yo'ing 20-something, and an obese woman after I got married. Once I discovered I could run a full mile there was no turning back for me. In 3 months I trained for a 20K race, a month later I did my first 1/2 marathon faster than I had done the 20K. I started training for a full marathon and everything was going great, I had done two 20-mile training runs and then my life unraveled and I never got it back on course.

Fast forward a few years, I regained all the 90 lbs I had lost plus another 20, I was 7 years older, and I couldn't walk comfortably around a mall. After much research and soul searching, I had WLS and was on the treadmill just a few days after the surgery, albeit just for a short time and for a veeeery slow walk. I've been dedicated ever since.

Right now I'm doing about a 13:13 mile, I hope to get back down to around a 10-minute mile over the coming year. I'm doing my comeback 5K in 7 weeks and I'm signed up for a 10K the month after. This week I'm going to start really working on endurance and start getting back into my old schedule of Tue/Thurs runs, long run on Saturday, short run on Sunday.

I am so motivated and inspired by everyone on the fitness board here. What you've all achieved is amazing. To think of where we all came from makes your achievements even more mind blowing.

Good luck to everyone on their personal goals. I hope to be reporting good news to you all on mine during the coming year.

I am running a local 5k in ORC Winter Series 5k in Orange County NY, Feb 21  .. my first 5k Using it as a training run for the 13.1 New York April 3

I'm thinking about a marathon in the October timeframe (reading this site, you guys kind of motivate me)..  near me is the Hartford ING Full Marathon October 9th (not sure if some of you have other suggestions - I suppose later in the month or Nov is even better).  I guess I want to fill in with some more races in between.

hahah,

Too bad they aren't made of a  valuable metal.

The first time you do something - It's going to be a personal record!

Hey Scott,
I think this year I am more interested in going for quantity than quality.  I think that my running partner and I have decided to forego any marathons this year, and instead focus in on getting in close to 10 half-marathons this year.We would also be doing a number of centuries and duathlons.  My real goal is to  collect as much medal this year to hang in my closet.  Times don't matter anymore, so give me the bling!

I own one and should be using it more, but it is extremely painful and easy to forget about.

This is a great idea.  I currently do this for my surgical group in Delaware.  I speak about 10 times per year (those are scheduled and I do another 5 drop-ins or last minute requests).  People are mostly amazed at what we have been able to accomplish.  Sharing is easy.
