I may go ahead and do that! Thanks for the idea. I will probably try and keep both tires available so that once nicer weather gets here I can see if I like doing some mountain biking just northwest of here.  I do want to get a dedicated race bike once I save up some. At least the bike I have now gets me out and riding which is the big thing. I'll check into the skinny tires next week.

Yeah I bet it is a bit different riding 26 miles on a mtn bike vs. a street bike.
Just an FYI you can get skinny tires for the mtn bikes as well, that will make a huge difference.

If you are interested that is.  My friend bought a hybrid, it's not quite a street bike and not quite a mtn bike it came with the big old nobby tires,  He finally got some street tires on it and it has helped him a lot.

If he had listened to me he would have bought the street bike, because he never rides off road, but ya can't tell him anything once he has his mind made up.

As much as I would love to suggest the Kauai marathon as a group event the cost could be prohibitive for some of us, so I would be fine with something like the Disneyland Marathon.

Scott,

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. I do not mean to be a pest, I just needed more clarification on a few points. I do agree with your position. I also missed the marathon distance for the bikes. I can see the century rides qualifying and I know the 26 miles on a bike isn't that huge of a committment (although if you saw me riding around trying to get street distance on my cheap $70. mountian bike, you might change your mind! )

Since we've (my hubby and I) have discussed taking the girls to Disneyland That would be a great excuse to go at that point so I would be up for the Disney thing!

Yeah, my In-laws are in the country visiting. So while I wouldn't have a problem ignoring my brothers, I do try and be a little more attentive to the in-laws!

Hi Scott,

Thank you for the welcome.  I like your idea... do the challenge using the modified version and then re-do it using the standard pushup. I have already signed up on the website.  I am execited.  I believe that I can do this via the knee version.

Welcome to the group!
Thanks for taking the challenge.

If you need to do a modified one, go ahead and do them.  Finish the plan.
Then go back and start over with the knees off the ground standard pushup.

They even talk about doing a modified pushup if you can't do any regular pushups at all.
Do the modified until you can do the standard good form pushups, then start the program.

Check out the website, they have lots of suggestions and different modified pushups you can do to help you build and complete the 100 pushup challenge.

Good work Dan.  I hope I can do that many by the end of the program.
I know 100 is the goal, but after barely eeking out 4 of them for my test, I'd look at doing 21 of them as a partial success and a kicking off point to do the program again.

Good work!

I absolutely thought running was the hardest most unenjoyable form of exercise there was.
I was wrong.  These pushups are much harder than running is.  I agree with you 100%

My arms, chest and wrists were not happy with me.

Awesome Job.

I know that tonight I have day 2 of the pushup challenge to do.  I'm just planning to incorporate it into my weight lifting days.

It certainly is pushing me out of my comfort zone as well.

congrats on tackling the challenge.

Way to get fired up!
