Topic: Personal challenges as motivation
Personal challenges

For me I remember the humiliation of the Presidents physical fitness tests in high school.
Run, do push ups, do pull ups, Those were always failures for me.  It go to the point where I wouldn't even try them.  I'd just look at the coach and say give me the F I can't do em.

Another challenge is the damned 6 foot wall from the police academy.  Law enforcement was my original major in college.  I was kicking ass academically and in all other aspects except for the physical agility tests.  I couldn't get my fat ass over the damn wall, and I couldn't run fast enough to make up enough points to cover for that defficiency.  I had to watch all of my friends graduate without me because of this.  Between college and the police academy, It was a waste of several years of my life all because of my weight.

Anybody else have physical challenges that haunt them from their past.

Just thinking about all the challenges I have for myself this year.
Average 3 miles of running each day for a year
do 100 push ups
do 10 unassisted pull ups
get over that 6 foot wall
and of course every race is a challenge.  This year I have 1 sprint, 1 olympic and 1 70.3 triathlon that I am already registered for.
I want to do a Muddy Buddy
I'd like to do the Rock and Roll 1/2 marathon
I'd like to do a couple century rides.

I'm starting to wonder if I should slim the list down and focus on a couple of them, get them completed and then move on to the next one.

Wow that's awesome.
I don't think I can do that many of them yet.

I did my exhaustion test today and squeezed out 25.  I was amazed at the progress.

Week 2 should be done for most people now.
Hows it going?

Don't forget that at the end of week 2 you will do another test to see where you are placing, and possibly adjust what column you should be using.

I'll be testing mine tonight.

I posted this in The Excercise & Fitness Forum, but for those of you who do not frequent that board:

Ok you guys.... I cannot stop thinking about my race last weekend and how awesome it was. So, with a week shy of 1 year to prepare, I am calling out ALL of you runners, and say individually and collectively, to you all, TRAIN AND PLAN TO DO THE ROCKY RACCOON RACE in 2011!!!

Here is the website : http://www.tejastrails.com/Rocky.html  The date is 2/5/2011

I will be going for the 100 mile race again. However, the cool thing is, they give you 29 hours to complete the 50 miler. That means you could average 1.80 MPH (Crawling speed) and still finish an ULTRA! The medals are sweet for 50 miles, the buckle is Bad A$$ for the 100. It is 1 hour north of Houston, you could probably get a flight (Southwest flies there) for $200 and there are decent hotels close to the race for under $50 a night. Entry fee was like $75 and was an incredibly ran race. Read the reports and comments on the website for input.

Let me know if you are interested and I will start working on group discounts at hotels and make sure we are taken care of. If you are looking for a way to "Up the Ante" and push yourself, do it here, you will not be dissapointed! I HOPE WE GET A BUNCH OF US OUT THERE!!!!!!!!

Hey Linn thanks for the comments.
We are trying to form an active race team.  We aren't trying to change what O.H. already has to offer which is their regular board.  There is no real need to have to O.H. exercise and weight loss boards.
If that is the focus and it certainly is a viable option for lots of people, then it is already in place.

As for the race team, we are looking for people who want to compete in big events.or get together and train together occasionally.
Events like the Disney Marathons, or any marathon that would count as a qualifier for one of the biggies.  Same thing goes for Triathlon.  Any event that would qualify you for a major event would count as well.

Sure we might talk to a couple people at small races, but get interviewed or mentioned at a big race as an individual or as a team and we have the ability to reach more people and let them know about WLS what it is, and how we have run with the changes that it has provided us.

What I had in mind when I brought up the team was a group of people who wanted to race and challenge themselves, spread the word about WLS and life after.  Have a good time, maybe get some sponsors to help us and facilitate going to more events.  Give us a platform to spread the word that WLS is an option and to dispell the falacies and stigma surrounding WLS.
