I have my upper GI scope scheduled for this coming Wed afternoon. I thought Deana had told me she would sending out instructions, but I haven't received anything yet I wrote down n a piece of paper, fast and i also have beside it "clear liquid okay". I am assuming because my scope is in the afternoon that is why i would be allowed clear liquid. I wonder when I can last eat though?!
thanks,
Jen
I too was frustrated in the beginning. Through the process I realized that there was a reason for the length. You need time to adjust your mind and body to the new lifestyle and educate yourself. My best piece of advice is what someone told me, go see a therapist to discuss this change. It is a huge change and some people don't deal well with it. I'm happy that I saw a therapist. It helped prepare me for the upcoming huge change.
I started my journey on March 29, 2012 and surgery is set for June 10th. I took longer because I chose to wait for my surgery. I could have been done in April but because of life and work, I chose to wait.
When you get to the optifast, I would suggest getting the chocolate shakes. The vanilla ones don't taste the best although you can always add to them to alter the taste. The chocolate becomes yummy after you get used to the taste.
If you have any other questions, please let us know. We are all here to help.

I haven't had surgery yet, but I sense my time is close by.
You can take a look at my timeline and see.
Ways of speeding it up ? Allow the process to work the way it's intended to.
Make necessary changes now, listen to what the Nutritionist and nurse have to tell you and implement those changes.
Keep plucking at your appointments.
I felt the process slow as well, what I did was I took that time to educate myself, read up on the journey, mentally, physically and around the house prepare yourself for this wonderful tool. There is a plethora of information on this site and all around you.
Good Luck

I've finally been cleared by the dietician - 3 visits for me. Behaviourist just the once, no need for follow up or psychologist. Had blood tests, ultrasound. They have the results of all my tests a year ago when my bowels were investigated. All was negative. Just the medical stuff left I'm told, but she didn't know what, if anything, might have to be repeated from last year. That's my status as of last Wednesday when I was cleared for diet.

I am one week post op. I think in my case the exercise and eat as healthy as possible before the operation is what helped me.drank lots of water the day before surgery, this helped me to urinate soon. Keep my mind occupied the day before of surgery.
Good luck
-got into some sort of a workout routine pre-op
-educated my family better (my husband does a lot of the cooking)
-taken the full 6 (or 4/as per surgeon) off to adjust to eating differently and, of course, heal
-not packed so much for the hospital
-do NOT get over focused on the scale. You will go through plateaus...mine lasted 4 weeks!
Really happy that I really educated myself beforehand and started therapy to deal with my relationship toward food as well as how to deal with changes in my family dynamic (suddenly high energy wife is frustrating to chilled out hubby).

The nurses were fantastic, you could not ask for a better staff! Watch my video it may help answer some questions, or feel free to ask me anything

My best advice is just breathe, you are about a week from the biggest change in your life, the pre-op is nothing, make sure if you have insurance through work or a spouse you bring your card, you may want to call the insurance company and see if they cover semi-private rooms, as they are much better 2 to a room, then 4. And after its all done patience, the weight didnt come on overnight and it will not come off overnight, but have patience, I started optifast nov, had surgery booked for jan, and there were complications, started optifast again in march, had vsg on april 11th, since nov till till now I am down 72lbs, so this is going to be life changing. That being said it is still not easy, after the surgery you are gonna have that OMG what did I do moment, this was a mistake but it will pass as soon as you hit a scale. Good luck, and welcome to your new healthier life

Since a few of us are close to teh surgery date, i was wondering if any of the recent post-ops have any advice for the rest of us. It can be from planning, preping for surgery, hospital tips and tricks to liquid/food options. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.
