Hi everyone,

I'm in the same boat as some of you and am trying to have a better understanding of what are the steps.  I've done the Weight Management program with Dr. Dent 7 years ago and hope that it will make a difference as to how quickly I will be going through the process:  Here's my information:

Attended information session:  February 10 2012.

Meeting with Dr. Dent:  November 20, 2012

Abdominal ultrasound:  December 7, 2012

Seeing nutritionist and behaviorist:  on January 15, 2012.

At my last visit with Dr. Dent, he said I was about 6 months away from the surgery.  I'm just curious to find out what are the next steps...It is so nice to have this forum, where we can share our experiences and support each other on this journey.

I just went to see the nutritionist and behaviorist yesterday. If they both clear you for surgery then you move on to the next steps; if not, you have to see them again until they believe you are ready. I was told that I would have to do a pre-op session on a Wednesday from 1-4. That is the only day that these sessions are being held. Once you do that, then you are sent to to the surgeon. Not sure what happens after that point but I'm assuming surgery isn't that far away. Again, when asked, no timeline was provided for any of the next steps.

Good luck next week!

I saw Dr. Dent on February 6th and he gave the go ahead for surgery. I have my pre-op session on Feb 20th and i meet Dr. Yelle on Feb 26th. I've only read good things about him so I'm very much looking foward to meeting him. Although, I must admit that inside I'm freaking out! I can't believe that I'm almost there; seems like I had more time. I have to admit that at the beginning I was very frustrated by the length of the process but now I understand why it's so long. You need to ensure that you are physically and mentally ready for this surgery. A friend of mine suggested that I see a therapist during the process in order to be ready for surgery. I have no regrets about seeing a therapist and see will continue on this journey with me until a few weeks after to ensure that I'm ok. I recommend this step to everyone; the surgery will change your life in so many ways, even some that you may not be aware of yet.

I've finally been cleared by the dietician - 3 visits for me.  Behaviourist just the once, no need for follow up or psychologist.  Had blood tests, ultrasound.  They have the results of all my tests a year ago when my bowels were investigated.  All was negative.  Just the medical stuff left I'm told, but she didn't know what, if anything, might have to be repeated from last year.  That's my status as of last Wednesday when I was cleared for diet.
