Hi Everyone,
I had my vsg surgery Oct 22, 2014. I am at the pureed diet stage and thought I was doing ok. I have gained back a few pounds....(4, did get down 20 lbs but now at 16 lost)
What am I doing wrong that I'm gaining on day 10 and 11?
hey everyone. People have been pretty quiet lately just curious how everybody's coming along in their recovery.
I thought it would be a good idea to share ideas for pureed foods.
Here are some foods (most of which are high protein) I have tried and liked:
Egg drop soup - blended, braunschweiger, crustless pumpkin pie, egg salad, pb2 (from Amazon) mixed with yogurt and protein shakes, and scrambled egg.
I am now 6 days post op as well. I have no problem getting my protein and water in but I am still sore enough to need a pillow on my tummy still. I go to my swallow test tomorrow and I fear I may n3ed a wheel chair to get around the hospital.
I can say I chop up some pieces of bake chicken in my blender and it was so good!! It took me over 30 minutes to eat it...but it was a great way to get down some protein.
I forgot to add, the NP said it's good to get at least half of what we are shooting for. I was scared bc I couldn't get everything down, it's impossible. Prayerfully after the swelling subsides I'll do better. Currently I get about 32oz fluid not counting my protein. That's an additional 16 oz. I keep a bottle with me all the time so I can sip. That helps . I start on puréed Monday .
I haven't had the unflavored. I use the strawberry sorbet with my crystal light , and I use vanilla for all day it's pretty good.
My girls are happy to be free! Its going to be a pain when I go back to work. haha
I have all boys in my house, so I know what you mean by traumatizing the kids.
I have unjury unflavored and I don't think I care to much for it. I feel like I can't stop smelling it. After a couple sips or spoonfuls I'm done. I feel so satisfied and I don't want to eat anymore. I sent an email o my dietitian because I need some help. I'm nervous about making myself finish because I don't know if I'm really full. Ugh...I feel like its a full time job trying to eat or drink.
I didn't use the shower chair, but my husband gave me a shower. I felt terrible that I had to ask him to do it, but he didn't mind (9 years of marriage and I still feel bad when I have to ask him to help me do things that I feel I should do).
I was scared to sleep on my first night, but I took the pay meds and I didn't feel anything after that until I woke up.
Walking was great to me, but not until I passed A LOT of gas. So by day 4-5, I was walking pretty good (about 1/4 of a mile) and driving by day 10. Sunday which would be day 13 I walked over 7 miles. I was in a walking competition. I will say that I did a lot of walking pre-surgery.
