October 2014 Sleevers
Welcome! A little bit about me!
Hi, My name is Yolanda, and I started the group to try to get some of us October surgeries together in one place to look to each other for support since we'll all be having surgery around the same time. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you and getting to know each other!
My surgery is 10/7/14 at Del Sol Bariatrics in El Paso Texas and will be performed by Dr. Jorge Acosta. I'm 40 years old, I've been looking into wls for quite a while and finally at the beginning of this year, decided to really pursue it. I have 2 teenagers, and 2 adult children one of which lives with me at home. In my adult life my lowest weight was 185lbs right before I became pregnant with my 22 year old daughter. My highest weight was 316 back in January 2014. I've been obese pretty much my entire adult life and I'm looking forward to losing the weight and living a "normal" life without fear that the bench under me is going to buckle...without worrying about whether I will be able to keep up with my grandkids one day, being able to walk up a flight of stairs without feeling like I'm going to die. I could go on and on but you all get the idea.
Enough about me. Welcome!
Hey there Yolanda and thanks for setting up this group!!
My name is Robyn and I will be having my surgery on 10/9 here in New Jersey at the Ocean Medical Center with Dr. Pahuja. I am also 40 and have been up and down on the weight loss yo-yo all of my adult life. I have been as low as 150 (my goal weight) as recently as 2009 and as high as 294 which was just last year. I am a master at losing weight (300+ over my lifetime) and a complete and utter failure at maintaining it (I always get HUNGRY). I am having WLS to add this tool to my arsenal of loss and maintenance. I also have two children, both girls, 5 and 1 years old. I completely understand you when you say you want to keep up the grandkids cuz I just want to be HERE when they arrive and not dead due to my obesity.
I wish a speedy, easy, relatively painless recovery to all of us and let this be the solution that we are all praying it will be!
Hi Robyn! Thanks for joining us!
Always hungry, huh? I know that all too well. This tool is going to be the best thing we've ever done for ourselves, I firmly believe that. We're going to be healthier, happier and we're going to kick obesity's butt!!
Hi, My name is Tamiko and I am scheduled for surgery 10/6/14. Its being performed in Northern Kentucky. I'm 37 years old and I decided on WLS early this year. My brother successfully had the surgery last May. To date, he has lost 125 pounds and he looks and feels great. I'm married with 2 boys. I'm currently at my highest weight 296 when I started this journey and I'm only down to 294! I knew it was time because I was in so much pain from he weight on my knees. At times, I feel like I'm a 90 year old lady, I hurt so bad and move so slow.
I wish everyone luck throughout their journey!
Hi Tamiko! Our starting weights are very similar! I'm 5'7" and my consult weight back in July was 293. Before my preop diet I was weighing in at 284 I'm on day 5 of that now and my home scale says I'm 276 but I don't know whether or not to trust it so I'll wait till I get weighed in at my preop appt on 10/6 and THEN I'll believe it lol
I'm 40 years old, I'll be 41 in October so my surgery on 10/7 is my birthday gift to myself :)
Good Luck on your journey and remember, we're all in this together!
