OCT 2011 Sexy Sleevers!!

Topic: Starting the Journey
Hi Everyone-
I'm new to the OH forum, although I've been reading posts for a while now. I have done a lot of research before deciding the sleeve is for me. I've had good weight loss success on my own (lost 85 pounds in high school and kept it off for 20 years)...but then it got really high (288 was highest) then I lost 88 of that, only to be up another 35. It's a constant struggle and I think of the sleeve as a tool that will help....especially as menopause is around the corner and likely a time it will make weight loss even harder.
We are frequent travellers to Costa Rica where we would like to retire, so I decided to book my surgery there. I'm scheduled for 10/31 so I just barely qualify for this group--just slipped in under the wire!
Our plan is to leave here the 30th, and then surgery is the 31st. I just talked to the nurse there yeterday and she told me about a drain and the tight opaque socks (up to the thights) --did all of you have both of those things? I'm starting my pre-op diet on the 18th, and will need some strength for that as I seem to have this mentality of "eat all I want" now b/c I can't in the future. Has anyone else had that?
I'd like to hear about everyone's experiences--the good, the bad, the ugly. I've only had two very small surgeries before so I'm a bit nervous! Good Luck and Hi to everyone here--I'm glad to ge a part of this forum! -Maria

Yes, we will be staying overnight in San Diego then being shuttled to the hospital the morning of the 20th. My husband will be with me as well and I would love to meet a fellow baraiatric buddy. We will be landing around noon so we will be free.... LOL!

No you are not alone at all. I feel all of those things too. But for over a year I have been obsessively researching WLS and I know that for me this is the right choice. That doesnt mean Im not scared, it just means that I am looking further down the road and the way Im going without WLS is not good. We all have a different story and different reasons for doing what we are doing. I just know that for me personally the idea of being free from this fat is exciting! Please feel free to express all of your fears and anxiety here. We are all going thru the same experience.
