This is my first post, but I've stalked OH a long time. There's so much info that I spend most of my time reading. So thank you all for sharing the stories, recipes and questions I would have probably never thought of. What I learn is priceless. Not to mention I found a couple of people I know and now I have a mini support group.

My surgery is 10/20 and I cannot believe it got here so fast!!! I almost don't believe it's here already. I'm excited now, but the last month I was a nervous wreck and I don't know why. I'm a bit more relaxed now and practicing my "inhales and exhales", but I swear they're making me reach for the wrong number. Haha, is it supposed to be hard to do? LOL

Best of luck to you Mashelle! I hate to say though, today the weather in San DIego looks more like Seattle! Its cold and foggy and drizzling. Hopefully the sun will come out for you in the next few days

Take care,
Jodie

I don't have to wear them until the day of surgery.  The drain tube - my information said thatthey only use that when there is a lot of bleeding in the abdomen or other fluid for some unknown reason.  I imagine it's like a catheter?

I suppose I could make up a corny 12 days of surgery (like the 12 days of Christmas) for a laugh, but I'll spare you all!

I'm reading a lot of the posts. Hadn't posted myself much because I didn't get a lot of response early on.  But, I'll start getting more regular.

Is anybody else's surgeon requiring them to wear anti-embolism stockings?  I'm 36 BMI, so it's not a weight related issue--and I guess it's just his standard protocol. I'm a bit bummed about it as we'll be in Costa Rica which is warm and humid.  I'm staying the week after surgery at a beautiful resort on the coast--I figured what the heck--it's been a rough, rough year stress wise and what better way to recover.

Also, I'm curious about the drain---is that just a tube coming out?  And, if so (which I imagine it is) where does it drain to?  Is there a bag, or gauze on the end or what?

I'd like to have as few surprises as possible.  My surgeon seems to be very renowned (he was chosen to perform laproscopic surgery on the president of Costa Rica which seems telling) he's far away and I keep having little questions pop up.

Thanks for any insight and good luck everyone!!  -Maria

Wow-I"m going to watch your posts as you already have great food ideas--I love Ricotta...and my standard when I did a low carb diet a few years ago and lost 70 lbs on my own (have since regained 1/2 of that) was ground turkey with a variety of colored bell peppers. You've already had fantastic weight loss!  I have 12 days to go--I really can't wait.  I'm ready for this change and going back to running (which I did a lot when I was younger), hiking and biking.  Keep us posted--you are very motivational!
