OCT 2011 Sexy Sleevers!!
I think I'm the first leak for this group,
I wanted to update for awhile but I'm just barely getting the strength back to even be on a laptop.
I had my surgery on the 10th. Felt okay until l went home, when on the second night I woke up to a high fever, severe left shoulder pain, and severe nausea. Went back to the hospital and had a long ER wait, with my husband and I being completely terrified after being told I might have a pulmonary embolism. Finally we learned that I had a leak and an infection to boot, I was admitted back to the hospital where I stayed nearly a month. I also had a second surgery where they attempted to close the leak and clean out any visable infection, both of which wasn't very successful. By the time they did the second surgery, scar tissue had formed a barrier around the staple line. My surgeons decided not to mess with it and let it heal on its own. They didn't find any additional infection to clean out, it may have been becaue of the days of antibiotics I had been on.
I had a picc line inserted and have been on TPN and IV fluids since roughly October 14th. Nothing to eat or drink since then and I am dying to drink some water or just a protein shake. I am still feeling hunger pains along with a rumbling sounds in my stomach. Definitely not head hunger. I also still have a drain since the second surgery which has also sucked, especially when attempting to shower.
The last time I checked my weight I had lost 20lbs, although I was told it could be more due to the fact I was getting so much fluids. I have a CT scan and re-check with my surgeon tomorrow and am hoping he will give me the OK to remove the drain, the picc line, and be able to start liquids again. I seriously just want to feel normal again, sometimes I look at people while in the car casually walking around and can't believe I ever felt normal like them. Even knowing people here who have had surgery later than me and going back to work sounds crazy, because at this point I can't even imagine walking to my mail box without collapsing.
Here's hoping the worst has passed and I will be feeling better soon. So happy to hear so many of you are having such a smooth recovery and success. Its good to see so many positive stories. :)

Wow, how awful. I wondered what would happen if we got a leak, and how would we know. I guess our bodies would let us know like yours did.
Sorry for your rough start. Here's to hoping that it's smooth sailing here of out, and that you'll feel normal again soon. I pray your health is restored. Glad you're on liquids now.
