Hi Erika,
Hmm.. It may be a little difficult to say what you are exactly feeling. From my own personal experience I had some complications while in the hospital which resulted in some severe bouts of nausea. It took a good 3 months to get the nausea under control so I never could even tolerate the thought of food much less the smell, therefore I never experienced any hunger symptoms.
I do know people that breezed through their surgeries and went home to resume normal life activities. Some of them had to force themselves to eat each meal rather it be liquid or puree phase because they were just never hungry and some did experience their definition of hunger.
Your body has been through major trauma. So some of the rule of thumb questions we ask ourselves may apply or they may not but lets give it a try:
1. Am I hungry or am I actually thirsty?
2. Am I hungry or am I bored?
3. Am I hungry or just tired of dark days and winter?
I think you are doing fantastic. I can’t wait to see you……..
Now I've never heard this from any of the professionals Doctors, Nurses, Nuts etc., but from other WLS patients.
I disagree I've felt hunger before usually when I've skipped a meal and that's when I really have to watch not to eat too fast.
Now if your having cravings then I would say that's head hunger. Other then that I think your doing just fine if your journaling your intake and your still losing then I would say your doing OK. C'ya Bob
