Just wondering......

I would like to know if anyone has experienced complications and if you are a few years out have you experienced any long term or new complications that you were not expecting?

I am in my 5th month of my 6 month supervised diet. I have not gotten a surgery date yet. I am going to have the lap rny. Dr. Richards will be performing my surgery, I would like to know if he usually has his patients tubed (J tube? or ng tubed) post surgery. Will there be heparin shots? I guess I am trying to prepare myself mentally.

I am feeling like I need to get things in order. I have been wondering what was most helpful to you post surgery and/or what appliances that I may need to purchase that would make life easier, if any.

I would appreciate any advice and/or stories. Thanks......

Hi, Susan! I had a lap RNY on 2/2/09 by Dr. Richards, and haven't had ANY problems so far!(I think the man is a genius!!!) I didn't have any tubes post-op.  A friend gave me a MagicBullet-like blender she got from Aldi's and it has worked great.  I haven't bought anything else.  Everyone on the forum said not to get too attached to certain protein drinks before surgery, because your taste buds may change after surgery--and mine DID! Wait til after surgery to try samples(I ordered a sample pack from Bariatric Advantage before surgery to have them on hand for after surgery to try).  Hope everything goes well for you and WELCOME! to NNEW!  Erika

Susan, hope you are hav'n a  wonderful time gett'n info, for your prep. in order for your surgery. Wow you've got alot to look forward to!!!! I am over a yr out. and do'n great, as Ms Erika said Dr. Richards and his staff was god sent. I just put everything in his and the good lord's hands and they took care of me. With the wonderful support of the groups and of course my wonderful mut. family as well as my family and friends. Well I can just say I am blessed beyond belief.  As you will be too.  I did come out with no tubes, nor did I have to go to ICU,  I did have heparin shots, but ya know, they took great care of me. I was up and at em' fast and furious like. Go in with a positive and you will come out the same way. And it sounds as though you are on the right track. Do what they say and follow them to the letter, you'll do great my dear. And Congrats, just keep us updated. Graphics and Layouts at DazzleJunction.com
