Nothing is wrong....So is something wrong?

Ok--I feel fine, I'm doing great--no N&V or anything else. I am following the diet perfectly.  But today I felt ...*hungry*...and I'm scared.  I shouldn't feel hungry should I?

Erika, You know this has come up many times and there are those that think that after WLS you don't feel hunger, its all head hunger.
Now I've never heard this from any of the professionals Doctors, Nurses, Nuts etc., but from other WLS patients.
I disagree I've felt hunger before usually when I've skipped a meal and that's when I really have to watch not to eat too fast.
Now if your having cravings then I would say that's head hunger. Other then that I think your doing just fine if your journaling your intake and your still losing then  I would say your doing OK. C'ya Bob

Hi Erika,

Hmm.. It may be a little difficult to say what you are exactly feeling. From my own personal experience I had some complications while in the hospital which resulted in some severe bouts of nausea. It took a good 3 months to get the nausea under control so I never could even tolerate the thought of food much less the smell, therefore I never experienced any hunger symptoms.

I do know people that breezed through their surgeries and went home to resume normal life activities. Some of them had to force themselves to eat each meal rather it be liquid or puree phase because they were just never hungry and some did experience their definition of hunger.

Your body has been through major trauma. So some of the rule of thumb questions we ask ourselves may apply or they may not but lets give it a try:

1. Am I hungry or am I actually thirsty?

2. Am I hungry or am I bored?

3. Am I hungry or just tired of dark days and winter?

I think you are doing fantastic. I can’t wait to see you……..

Thanks, Trina. Those are good questions to ask.  Even if it feels like"hunger", it is positively NOT like before surgery when it was out of control.  Probably a lot is boredom.  I plan on starting work back next Monday, so that should help.  Erika

Howdy Erika, try some Hot SF tea, if that don't work then try some SF Tropical popscycle, something that makes you thank your eating but your not. It's the habits again. Bless your heart, you've got something on your mine and or to much go'n on, and your bored so like the rest of us our old habits come back we want the food. It's our old friend. But if you get something  that will fill your tummy then you will be fine. And the tropical fruit ones are great, I might add, just ask Diane. Hope this helps MyHotComments.com MyHotComments

Ya know, I've also done some of that stuff that Trina suggested, ya no ...... SF instant  HotApple cider, yummie!!!! And it's good stuff too. That fills me up. She gets hers at Walmart and I get the kind at Kroger, so you can get it either place. But it great stuff. Just as a change, and you know we get cold.  Burrrrrr
