Topic: RE: Tell us one thing....
I'm in Pennsylvania, but work in Baltimore and am having my surgery there.
Any support I can get!! My husband doesn't quite know how to take my decision so it's nice to talk to others about it.
Biggest challenges? Husband! He is overweight for the first time in his life after having been underweight for a lot of years. I can't tell if he is scared jealous or what. It's hard to talk to him much. He isn't exactly unsupportive. I'm just not sure I could call him supportive. And he seems to like to tempt me with forbidden fruits.
Haven't told co-workers. Did tell my boss though. Told a select few of family members. Honestly don't have many close friends these days. Friends, but not close. Lost my BFF to cancer a couple years ago, so that has been a bit hard. She was my biggest cheerleader. Basically told three people. I got different responses from each. One was horrified. One is supportive. One hasn't really said what she thinks.
All of friends and family have said I'm basically not fat enough. (So I guess I wait until I am???) I have 60-70 pounds to lose. I think that's fat enough. Husband thinks that I should be able to control myself and all would be right with the world.
Wow. What to do when I lose this weight. So many things. Wear shorts in the summer. Bathing suit without my preferred accesory (towel). Exercise without feeling like I'm going to die. Bend over at the waist for anything that requires bending over at the waist!
So enough about me...now I'll read about all of you!

I am almost 14 months post op, I have not told any of my friends but my family knows...
Before surgery, I could not walk up steps, I had to crawl due to knee pain, now I run, yes, run, up the steps, can take my golden for a walk and tire her out instead of the other way around...
my biggest problem is I have a food pusher in my life...he is convinced I am trying to become aneroxic...he keeps pushing stuff he knows I can not have because I need to gain weight...because I am all bones..LOL

...about your weight loss journey...
Where are you?
What kind of support would you like from this group?
What are your biggest challenges?
Have you told your friends, family, etc. about your decision to have surgery?
What is the one thing that you'd like to do after you lose your weight - that you weren't able to do before?
Most of all - tell us how we can help you!
I'd like to start a monthly chat here so that we can talk to each other in real time - please let me know if you'd be interested in that. Some of the groups here meet once a week - I don't want to do that yet - unless others feel it necessary.
Let's get active and busy here - let's share, introduce ourselves and get to be the support group that ROCKS all others!!!
Peace and blessings to you all...
Jeri
P.S. I'll star****ch for my reply to my own post...LOL

You and me both, Char! Hey, we're up to 9 people - which is terrific - it means that we're growing. Now we just need to get folks talking!
I'm going to start a discussion topic...

You absolutely are welcome to join us! I know that most of us have spent years "failing" at all different sorts of diets and programs - but guess what??? We didn't fail, we just had some setbacks and the LapBand surgery is the best thing that I've ever done in my life!
The support you'll receive here at Obesity Help - there are some awesome people here! Everyone is very encouraging and supportive - you'll find so many answers and information.
Thanks for the congrats on my progress - I'm feeling really great and very happy that I'm on the other side of the surgery!
Tell us more about you, join in and realize that we're still pretty small and new - but we're hoping to grow and continue building this group.
WELCOME!!!
Peace and blessings,
Jeri

Hello there!
Can I join you even tho I actually live in PA? I'm having my surgery done in Maryland...does that count? I live right on the border so consider myself to be part of both places. Jeri, you have just what I'm looking for. I wanted to find someone that had the band who has been successful, and you fit the bill. Seems like most before/after pics are RNY folks. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) I'm scheduled for April 8th, and have found myself all wrapped up in the what if I fail thing. Not worried about the surgery itself per se. More worried that I will screw something up somehow......Sooooo any encouragement is strongly encouraged!
Congrats, by the way on your progress!

Please take a few moments to introduce yourselves to the rest of the group. We are a brand new group - which is why we are small. Now that I'm post-op, I'll be actively recruiting others to the group.
I'm excited that we have 6 members and hope to double that by the end of April and then we'll see where we go from there. I know there is a Maryland Board already - I'm hoping that we'll have a smaller, closer knit group of folks here who are close enough geographically that we can get together for exercise, encouragement and friendship.
Does this sound good to you? Please introduce yourselves under that thread!
I'm on my way to my ideal weight! One step at a time, one day at a time, one drink at a time! LOL
Blessings and Peace,
Jeri

Thanks, so much, Char! I'm trying to stay busy today getting all the things done that I won't be able to do for the next week or two. I feel like I've really accomplished a lot today and I'm truly looking forward to my new life!
I really appreciate the support!
Blessings and peace,
Jeri
