Maryland Residents
Introductions are helpful!!!
Please take a few moments to introduce yourselves to the rest of the group. We are a brand new group - which is why we are small. Now that I'm post-op, I'll be actively recruiting others to the group.
I'm excited that we have 6 members and hope to double that by the end of April and then we'll see where we go from there. I know there is a Maryland Board already - I'm hoping that we'll have a smaller, closer knit group of folks here who are close enough geographically that we can get together for exercise, encouragement and friendship.
Does this sound good to you? Please introduce yourselves under that thread!
I'm on my way to my ideal weight! One step at a time, one day at a time, one drink at a time! LOL
Blessings and Peace,
Jeri

Hello there!
Can I join you even tho I actually live in PA? I'm having my surgery done in Maryland...does that count? I live right on the border so consider myself to be part of both places. Jeri, you have just what I'm looking for. I wanted to find someone that had the band who has been successful, and you fit the bill. Seems like most before/after pics are RNY folks. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!) I'm scheduled for April 8th, and have found myself all wrapped up in the what if I fail thing. Not worried about the surgery itself per se. More worried that I will screw something up somehow......Sooooo any encouragement is strongly encouraged!
Congrats, by the way on your progress!

Hi, I just joined. I made the decision to do this a year ago but between taking on a new job for 8 weeks, playing telephone tag with various medical support people, etc. it took me until December to get started.
My surgeon is Dr. Averbach, and I think I'm getting the surgery at St. Agnes in West Baltimore. Here's what's done: psych evaluation, 6 month of supervised dieting, gall bladder scan. The insurance request is supposed to go in today. I have my insurance thru Carefirst/Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
WLS veterans: if you have the same insurance, how long did it take you to get approved? How long did it take to get surgery scheduled after approval? Right now I have NO idea when I am having the surgery and if it's in June, I need to do some planning.
About me: I am almost 56 years old, a widow living with my son, a college student. I have another son who lives with his girlfriend about 20 miles away from us. I work full-time as a Federal contractor. Oh, and we also live with an 11 year old van-patterned cat (mostly white with some tabby patches).
The other question might be unanswerable but if you don't mind answering from your own experience...say I have my surgery in 3 weeks. I am planning a social event with friends for 9 weeks from then (so 12 weeks from today). Providing I follow the doctor's instructions to the letter, about how much weight is it realistic to expect to lose in that time? I am 5'3" tall, and weigh about 260 lbs. now.

You absolutely are welcome to join us! I know that most of us have spent years "failing" at all different sorts of diets and programs - but guess what??? We didn't fail, we just had some setbacks and the LapBand surgery is the best thing that I've ever done in my life!
The support you'll receive here at Obesity Help - there are some awesome people here! Everyone is very encouraging and supportive - you'll find so many answers and information.
Thanks for the congrats on my progress - I'm feeling really great and very happy that I'm on the other side of the surgery!
Tell us more about you, join in and realize that we're still pretty small and new - but we're hoping to grow and continue building this group.
WELCOME!!!
Peace and blessings,
Jeri
