Hi well done on getting through surgery and getting your protein and water in.  You are right 1 day at a time is a good way of working through this.

Keep it up.

Important tip: I have found that if I sip while standing up and then walk around the couch 2-3 times, sip, sip, sip, walk around the couch 2-3 times, sip, sip, sip, walk around the couch 2-3 times, I am much more able to get the liquids down and in record time. My theory is that when I sip while sitting (straight up or reclining) my organs are "bunched up" as opposed to standing and they are more elongated. When standing, the liquids go down so much more easily! ...and followed by walking, it seems to help them process through my system more easily without the subsequent "gurgle, gurgle, gurgle, belch" and uncomfortable tightness. Try it and see if it works for you!

We bought a pill crusher and I crush the Centrum chewable and the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Citrate. I swallow the crushed substance in small amounts over several sips of protein shake. I also take a blood pressure med, a med to prevent gas, and a med to prevent gall stones - all prescribed by my surgeon. Each of those I release from the capsule and swallow the same as above. I think that's it. I haven't had any problem getting them down. Since I swallow these items along with sips of the protein shake, it helps mask any icky flavor.

My Nut had told me not to worry about vitamins till at least 3 weeks out but I started myself early because I am not getting in enough protein. (I dont want to eat)
I will wait another week for the calcium but Im still trying to take the multivitamins, I am finding that I can take the gummies if I chew them up really really REALLY good first.
I also am taking OTC Prilosec for 2 weeks. Well the generic version. It seems to be helping since I havent had any heartburn for a couple of days, but my stomach feels all icky.

I havent started mine yet, but I was told to start them when you can get your protein in, and the gummy ones were fine...but to chew them as well as possible. I too cannot start the calcium until 1 month out. I also have to take two pepcid completes per day to reduce stomach acid per my dr.s orders....u might try that too. :)

Topic: I survived...I am SLEEVED.
I got my sleeve on 3/29/10 and as my surgeon said "everything went beautifully, except that he fixed a large Hiatal hernia that I had as well." as I woke up in my hospital room I was amazed, and all I could think was...I SURVIVED. I have to admit though I have had some buyers remorse, but as each day passes that goes away less and less. But the nurses told me this is normal. I ended up staying in the hospital for 2 days because my pain/nausea was so bad. But I have only thrown up once...protein didnt like me at first. So I am hoping I am not the only one. The pain/gas/nausea and weird gastro intestinal feelings were worse than I expected...but maybe its because I had never had a surgery before.

But victory! Yesterday I got 48 oz of water in and 30grams of protein in for the first time since surgery! so that made me very happy...and I intend on trying to boost the protein because I know 30 grams isnt enough...but one day at a time. That is my new motto...One day at a time.

well i took them again today and so far so good, i find that if i take them with food I am okay and also if I chew them really really slow lol. The chewable centrums I had bought were that orange flavor (would have prefered no flavor but they dont have any) and that was the taste I could not stand.

I use the ones from bariatric advantage.  The orange ones.  The taste is... tolerable.  The calcium losenges from the same brand however, I can not tolerate.  WAY too strong flavor and sweetness.... and HUGE.  I am looking into a powdered calcium I can mix with crystal light and drink down instead.

I am afraid of the gummy and chewy stuff, seems to me those would be very tough on your little stomach.
