Thanks for telling about your experience.  My surgery is scheduled for early November and I'll admit I'm getting a little anxious about it.  Partly because it seems like I have so much to do to get ready for when I come home and partly (a big part) because I'm not sure really what to expect about the time in the hospital and the first couple of weeks.  It helps a lot to hear from people who are going through it.

I had one done about a month ago, mine is mild but they did give me an apap--adjustable pressure.  It does help and is pretty easy to get used to.  I didn't sleep worth peanuts during my sleep study.  It was a strange bed and my husband wasn't there.  I guess that just shows how old and set in my ways I am becoming.  There was a time when I slept just fine wherever I passed out.

I too am a new member and am just getting ready to have my surgery.  I have had a lot of feelings of failure, not being able to do it on my own.  I also battle depression and I wish I had some answers for you  but I'm sure you know there are no pat answers.  I am up to 250 now and have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and back and knee pain.  I have to do something.  I lost one sister to a heart attack when she was 52.  I am 44.  I have two other sisters and thier medical problems are pretty much my future if I don't do something. I have found that though it is hard to get started, working out to music really helps my feelings of depression and failure.  My ipod is a god send.  When I get off the wagon and eat wrong I find the best way to get back on is to start with small changes like adding a salad or veggies to whatever I am eating and to make one meal a day a completely healthy one and go from there.  It also helps to write down what I eat.  I hate to say that because it is so hard for me to do and I would so like to believe that it is of no use.  It does help, as much as I hate it.  I loose my way a lot and it is hell to get back on track but I know it can be done.  Stay in touch and let me know how you're getting on.  I will be thinking about you.

Your message is heartening for me. I see my surgeon Wednesday to hopefully set a date for surgery. It is good to read about how things go after the surgery and what to expect as far as pain and activity, etc.  Good luck and will check in again.

The surgery wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  I haven't been in too much pain; I was expecting something much worse.  I have to admit that I have been having a lot of cravings which scares me.  If I am craving all these different kinds of foods now, how will it be when I can start eating again.  I have to force myself to attend support group or i know I will backslide.  I gained 10lbs while in the hospital.  I guess that is normal from the IV fluids.  Since leaving, I have lost 26 pounds so I find that to be very motivational!

Glad I am back home! Aurora Siani gets A+ in my book as does Dr Cua. I also give the male nurse and male assistant A+ as well. They were really great. I wish I had them the whole time there. They were going to argue with me who was going to waltz with me during my walk. When it came the nurse time I wasn't feeling well and in pain and too darn tired. Well I did 2 laps with his assistant. I had the morphine pump for 2 days. And came home on the liquid vicodin. I only took before bed last night, this morning and again before 6. I am sure I will need it before bed. But that is the least amout of time i needed for pain meds. Also I did 15 minutes on my recumbent bike approved by Dr Chua. Seems that my stomach doesn't hurt while I am doing int. I am going in few minutes to get my other 15 minutes. And hopefully tomorrow I will get in 3 times a day of 15 minutes each. Got to keep moving. Drinking my protein drinks. I had my inspire ice cream sandwich share one with my daughter today. Also try the new whey protein bullets had 1 ounce of each flavor, orange, grape and punch. I like the grape and punch. Orange was nasty. Tomorrow i will try the isopure zeo carb in the glass bottle and another shake. Trying to get all my protein. The medicine cups of foods for each meal my hubby, kids and friends get the biggest kick out of it. But you know what i am not hungry. But I still make myself eat it. I do get in my water as I can but drinking alot of protein stuff so that has water in it. taking my vitamins as well. Also my daily lovenox injections for the next 2 weeks. Also I got the IVC filter in. Also I have been passing gas alot and had my first bowel today but it wasn't alot but it was firm which is a good sign. I also put a cup of my miralax in this morning after my bm. Want to keep me regular. Well he said i should no longer need my prevacid that rny cures the acid reflux and said I had no hernia that was seen on the upper gi. Said it was the acid reflux. Well I just finish again on the recumbent bike this time 20 minutes.

I am new member. Had my surgery October 2004. Starting weight was 369. I got down to 199 by 2006.  Unfortunately, I have had a lot of setbacks in life and battled (still battling) depression. I have picked back up to 250.  I am so disappointed. I don't want to be around anyone and I feel like a failure.  I don't know to how get back on track. I feel lost and frustrated.  My doctor never really told me how to eat and we didn't do much follow up.  I need help.

Last night I had my sleep study. I didn't think Iwould get much sleep with all of the wires hooked to me but to my surprise I actually slept pretty well. I don't get my official results until the 23rd but my technician said she thinks I only have a mild case and wasn't sure if they will recommend a CPA*****t.
