I must admit... I don't think I know what true hunger is....head hunger is a major problem with me.
I need to work on this.

Topic: Hello all new member here
Just wanted to post and say hello to the group. I'm Chrissy and I started my journey a few months back. I have been approved for surgery but am currently in the process of having to lose weight before surgery, due to my surgeon's restrictions with BMI. I am currently on low-carb diet and taking a new diabetes peptide injection called Victoza which has helped with appetite. I am severely overweight and surgery is my last hope for a new chance at a better life with my daughters. I'm so excited to begin this new life but get discouraged easily because I have so much to lose before surgery is performed (at least 50 pounds). I wanted to join a group of upbeat, encouraging friends who seem to lift each other up and keep each other going. I feel like perhaps I have found that group here. Thanks for allowing me to join, and for reading my story. Anxious to meet you all!

Topic: Fabulous Food Find
I found a fabulous food find. It is from Silver Creek Specialty Meats (www.silvercreekspecialtymeats.com). It is their gourmet strips. I just ate their Chicken Breast with black bean salsa & Wisconsin cheddar and it was delicious. My husband at the Chicken Breast with Mango and he loved it too. They are expensive $18.60 for 12 but I am willing to pay a bit more for the right food - great nutrition, easy to take with me anywhere and everywhere. They are very tender and not the usual jerky that you have to pull on and chew and chew and chew.....
Pros: Delicious, great nutritional info (50 cals., 1 g. fat, 1 g. carb and 12 g. protein), packaged so easy to put in purse, very flavorful.
Cons: Expensive.
Just wanted to share!

Hunger - what in blazes is that????? LOL
The best information I've come across (and I'll bet it was from one of those people who "can't eat a thing" when I'm upset - as opposed to me who can "eat a horse and chase its rider". but at any rate it is food for thought.
Tummy hunger will eat anything and just enough of it to feel comfortable (now there's a novel concept - I've been guilty of eating anything looking to find what will "satisfy" me - the operative word here is satisfy. Tummy hunger will be satisfied.
Head hunger is often specific - at least when it starts - oreo cookies, potato chips, ice cream - rarely. if ever vegetables (except maybe corn) or a healthy food for us. and there is not satisfaction - as Cathy has posted elsewhere - 1 bite is too much (it sets off binging) and 1,000 bites are not enough (there's no satisfaction)
It's simply a case of mind over (what's the) matter. As we think so shall we eat.

Topic: Emotional Eating Cycle
I've been working on creating strategies (non-food ones!!) to combat emotional eating. It is an interesting cycle to analyze. Emotional overeating has nothing to do with actually being hungry. For me, once I identify something, I am more than half-way to dealing with it successfully. The awareness of this about me has been so helpful so I'm applying it to the emotional eating cycle.
This is what I've come up with so far:
The cycle typically involves:
I have an uncomfortable, undesirable emotion (some of mine are boredom, stress, fatigue, anxiety or overwhelm) or triggering situation.
Then my internal negative self talk starts in.
I want to stop (or minimize) the emotion and/or situation, and silence the negativity running through my head.
My emotionally overeating desire of head/heart hunger starts going and it is off and running, usually loud and strong. IF I give in, it allows me to no longer focus on the emotion/situation and negativity........for awhile. IF I give in, eventually, the feeling comes back.
BEFORE I give in, I fast forward to how I know I will feel. Now I'll have to deal with the original emotion(s) and/or situation PLUS the guilt and shame of giving in to emotionally overeating.
IF I gave in, the probability exists that to cope with the original emotion(s) and/or situation AND the guilt and shame of giving in, I'll emotionally overeat even more.
Then the cycle continues over and over and over again.
After reading all of this, it will help me be aware and refer to so I don't give in, in the first place.
When I deal with the original emotions and/or situation, the cycle becomes very quick and simple. As a result, I stay in control, react in an appropriate, healthy way AND, most importantly, I feel great about myself. My confidence, self-esteem and inner strength are intact and stronger.
Now that I've shared this, written it in black and white, it is a no-brainer. I choose me rather than the fix of food.
Yeah US!!

Topic: RE: What hunger feels like
great post, this is a topic i have been thinking about alot in the last week... im almost 10 months out of surgery and had started to drift into eating more things and slipping down the path of allowing carbs back in like pie and cookies... even tho i was still dropping sizes i felt i really needed to get foccussed so i cleaned my eating up and took out all junk and foods that could slow me down.
Then i stopped and considered that alot of time i was eating til i was full, and not stopping when i was no longer hungry.
so do you guys eat til your fill or just til your satisfied.?
i have started measuring out 2 oz of meat and ill add 1 oz of cheese and i have noticed im not full but im not hungry either and if i am feeling hunger after 30 mins ill have a drink and see if i was actually thirsty... so im still not sure if i really know what hunger feels like lol.
