Topic: Coaching Workshop Training Manuals
As most of you know, I am starting a basic bariatric coaching workshop for active OH SGLs.  How exciting!  To be able to share with leaders some skills and techniques to be an even better SGL to their members and OH members.  Sounds great, right???  Yes!

The next step was to write the training materials.  I've worked on it for quite awhile.  Reading, putting things together, researching, etc., to make it comprehensive, simple, and well, perfect.  (Yes, I suffer with perfectionism, especially when it comes to my job at OH!).

The workshop starts in August and I'm so excited. I'm even more excited because I will have completed the manuals probably at the end of this week.
I'm sharing this with you because I'm happy and excited.  Also, if you had asked me a few months ago if I could write a coach training curicculum, I would have laughed.  Me?  NO!  Well, now......the answer is YES!

I think being morbidly obese for so many years, I've settled and thought I couldn't do much.  After all, how many times had I tried to lose weight and failed?

This experience has taught me not to limit myself.  Just because I haven't done something before doesn't mean I can't.  All it means is that I haven't had the opportunity to do it.  Actually, we can rise and meet whatever opportunities or challenges come our way.  I always sign my posts and blog "Believe In Yourself" because it means a lot to me.  After this experience, I mean it even more for myself and all of us.....Believe In Ourselves!!

Believe In Yourself,

Topic: Never Take Being Active For Granted!
As many of you know, I'm having some major health challenges.  From dealing with a large herniation in my neck, it has been recommended that I have spine surgery.  Yikes!!

I'm in the process of pursuing conservative treatments.  Physical therapy and a course of epidural steroid injection protocol.  Due to the size and location in my neck, I have to go in the hospital for the day for the injection procedure.

I crave activity like I used to crave Krispy Kreme donuts pre-op!  I miss being active.  Of course, working out at the gym, taking walks are big things I miss. I miss the little daily activities that I am limited from doing.  The lesson in all of this is that I will never again take being active for granted.  I know for us as former morbidly obese, activity wasn't a craving.  For me now, it is.  I look forward to the days of enjoying my walks, going to the gym, and the general activity of errands and walking around the mall with my family.  It is the big things but it is more the small things.

From now on, my lesson is that activity is a "GET TO" rather than an "I have to" and that's a wonderful gift for a lesson!

Topic: Big Medicine and Dr. Mary Jo Rapini
I watched Big Medicine last night and, as usual, it was wonderful. Specifically, I enjoy watching OH's MHP Advisory Board member, Dr. Mary Jo Rapini. Her sensitivity and insights as to her work with the bariatric patients is amazing. She is a real asset to the bariatric community and to us at OH.

I had my surgery so long ago that sometimes it seems like yesterday that I was going through the pre-op process and other times I can hardly remember it. Weird, huh? Watching this show helps me to appreciate not only how far I've come but the common bond we share. I don't personally know the patients on the show but I feel as though I do. I understand and am right there with them as I watch their unfolding successes.

One of the many things I love about OH is that even though we may not personally know each other, we understand due to the bond we share of morbid obesity and wls.

Topic: 3 Things You Like About Yourself

I have a client that I'm coaching and she struggles, like many of us, in finding things to like about herself.  I understand.

I've worked on this myself.  Before, I have made a long list of all the things I didn't like about myself. Now, I can give you the same length of list but it contains things I do like about myself.

Have you ever made an on-going list of things that you like about yourself?  For one week, write down one thing per day that you like about yourself.

What are your three things?

For me:

1.  I value trust, honesty, and integrity above all.
2.  I love my family and friends.
3.  I do something everyday to enhance my personal growth and inner reflection.

What's yours?

Topic: Food Log - Doing It!
Do you use a food log? From my extensive dieting career pre-op, I have resisted journaling my food. It felt too much like my diet days. Yuck!

I saw a recent study that was published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine that states keeping a food log may double your weight loss.

I decided to make it fun. I'm a computer person so I recommitted to using FitDay and purchased their PC version. I downloaded it on my computer and keep it minimized throughout the day. That way, it is there starring at me. If I eat it, I have to put it in there.

It has already helped me. Making dinner last night, I started to take a taste and stopped myself. I didn't want to log it in my food for the day. Numerous times, it has made me stop and think. I like seeing all of the information of what I've eaten and spent in activities in one place. I would never, ever have thought I'd think it was fun. Food journaling fun? I've made it that way! Wow!

Whether losing weight or maintaining our weight loss from our surgery, as much as I've resisted it, kicked and fought the idea, I now regularly keep my food log. For me, I've found that it makes a big difference!!

Topic: What Weight Loss Coaching Is
Wow, it's been awhile since I posted. I was sick with pneuomonia, put in a couple of relapses, mix work, class, studying, etc. I'm back though................

I saw this quote and wanted to share with you as it is exactly what weight loss coaching is all about.

The greatest good you can do for another is not just share your riches, but reveal to them their own.

Topic: You're Rich!
For those of you that know me, I LOVE quotes. I saw this one and wanted to share with you.

A sure way to get rich quick is to count your blessings. (Author Unknown)

We all struggle with the ups and downs of finances. As we've all seen, the stock market and our economy has its ups and downs. However, the very best investment you can make is personal development in yourself. That is an investment that has dividends and pays interest for the rest of your life!

Topic: Get a motive for motivation
I hear a lot of members talk about needing to "get motivation," instead of looking for an abstract attribute like having motivation, you can find a worthwhile
motive.

Remind yourself about the long-term benefit of your desired action. The next task on your to-do list could be one step toward getting back on track, cutting out the simple carbs, drinking 64 ounces of water, or exercise regularly. It could also mean getting a degree, a promotion, or an improvement in a relationship. It could mean satisfying your curiosity or meeting a new challenge.

Focus on the benefits of an action can help us get moving and motivated. What people call motivation often springs from being clear about what we want in life and going for it!

Being clear about our long-range plans can give us all the energy we need to play life full out.

Topic: The Whale
I have this on my website for my post today. However, I wanted to share with you here too in case you don't go to my website. To me, the below is what we're all about here on my OH Group and as OH Members.

On the front page of the San Francisco Chronicle, there was a true story about a female humpback whale who had become emeshed in an underwater jungle of crab traps and lines. The whale was weighed down by hundreds of pounds of traps that caused her to struggle just to stay afloat. She also had miles of line rope wrapped around her entire body, including her tail, torso, and a line tugging inside of her mouth. Under these conditions, she was sure to die.

A fisherman spotted her and radioed an environmental group for help. Within a few short hours, the rescue team arrived. Upon their assessment, they determined that she was in such critical condition the only way to save her was for divers to manually untangle her. This was an extremely dangerous situation for the divers. One slap of her tail would kill a rescuer. Despite these potential life-threatening conditions, there were more than enough divers volunteering for this sensitive and dangerous rescue.

The divers worked for hours and eventually freed her. When the whale was free, the divers reported that she swam in playful, joyous circles as if to show her gratitude to these special rescuers. Then, she came back to each diver, one at a time, and nudged them, pushed gently around thanking them individually.

When interviewed, the divers reported it was the most incredibly beautiful experience of their lives. The diver that cut the rope out of her mouth says her eye was following him the entire time, and he will never be the same for that life-altering experience.

To be surrounded by people in your life that will help you get untangled from the things that bind you brings deep happiness. May you always know the joy of giving and receiving the gift of deep gratitude.
