Hi Melissa,
First, thank you for your fabulous contributions to our leader support group meeting on Saturday. I always love to hear from you and Ira. You both add so much to whatever you're involved in.
I get my downloads from iTunes. Easy to download and I haven't had any problems with music, movies or audiobooks.
Take care.....my best to you, Ira and the girls.

Topic: RE: Just had surgery this last Thursday....Questions
Congratulations on your surgery!! I hope you're feeling better every single day.
With the Lap Band, the band is inserted hollow. Some post-ops report a full sensation and others don't. In fact, I've had patients that have told me they don't feel any different and swear they didn't have anything done. Wait until you've had your first fill. Do you know when your surgeon gives the first fill? Usually surgeons give the first fill around 4-8 weeks post-operatively. Communicate with your surgeon that you do not experience the full sensation AND that you want to feel the feeling of restriction when you have your fill.
It is common not to feel hungry, especially right after you've had surgery. You haven't had it even one week yet so that is to be expected. Even though your surgery was less intrusive than the other procedures, you are healing and inflamed internally from the insertion of the band and port. Give it some time.
Yes, definitely make sure you get in your water/liquids. That is critically important with any wls procedure.
Your surgeon should have given you a listing of foods that he/she wants you to progress to. If you don't find enough variety or anything that sounds good, see what other alternatives that can allow you to eat. Although I had RNY, I know that cream of whea****ery oatmeal are common first foods for Lap Banders. I've also heard of cottage cheese as an alternative too. You might check about that. Some surgeons allow loosely cooked scrambled eggs too.
Again, congratulations. Please let us know how you are doing.

Topic: Just had surgery this last Thursday....Questions
I had the lap band on Thursday and although i am on liquids, I am not getting the full sensation. In fact I am just not hungry at all. I make myself drink the required amount of liquids but I am going to be starting on the mush diet in a couple of days. I know it is supposed to be of baby food consistency but I would like to know what you have tried. Please leave me some suggestions besides cream of whea****ered down oatmeal etc.

I had a dentist appointment and brought my iPod. I had purchased and downloaded the book written by Valerie Bertinelli, the spokeswoman for Jenny Craig.
I purchased it not because I'm into Jenny Craig but because of the personal challenges and huge successes she has achieved. It was somewhat interesting to hear about the rock and roll life and marriage of Eddie Van Halen and Valerie but what I loved the most was how her weight has impacted her life.
Here she is beautiful, rich and famous, yet she struggles with food, weight and body image. It was remarkable to me how she could remember milestones in her life by her weight. I've done the same thing.
As I've lost and maintained my 147 pound weight loss for over 8 years, it has brought me great joy to think about as I shrunk in body size that I've gained so much in my life. As my body became thinner, I became larger inside myself. I've achieved a new sense of confidence, self-esteem and successes never thought possible.
I'm glad that I have her book on my iPod. I am going to listen to it again (without the drill of the dentist!). I will skip over the drugs, alcohol, rock and roll parts to when she made the decision to take control of her life and lose weight. She was inspiration and motivational, yet she is just the same as all of us in her quest for weight loss and happiness in her life.

Hi Sandie,
Congratulations!! It is completely normal to be scared and excited. You'll probably alternate between those emotions and others.
Post here as you get closer and after you've had your surgery.
Take care and congrats! Cathy
