I agree with Annie Do NOT stock up on protein before surgery (get samples) your taste buds will change soooooo much. I was a sugar junky before surgery would put 5-6 spoon fulls of real sugar in my coffee in the morning . Now some sugar free things are way to sweet for me . I also luv the champion Chocolate the best ever . I also like the twisted cherry nectar, fuzzy naval nectar syntrax, Caribbean cooler nectar syntrax.

I just discovered adding warm chai tea to my vanilla protein powder taste just like a tea latte.

I also love the sugar free pistachio pudding mix and vanilla protein powder blended with a little ice...delish

My handy all time get make me happy shake is the Walmart brand Early to rise sugar free drink mix $1.00 a box mixed with vanilla protein powder ice and water..OMG taste just like a cream sickle.

I have tons of recipes save on my computer at work I can email them to you if you give me your email address tomorrow as soon as i get in to work.

Good Luck on your journey! I ordered a lot of maples from unjury and vitalady before surgery and if you make meeting people share samples because those pwders can be expensive I've paid $50 for some strawberry protein powder and it suck Isopure

Hey Lisa,

My number 1 recommendation is DO NOT stock up on protein before surgery - unless it is samples. There is protein that I LOVED pre-op, but post op I couldn't STAND it. In fact, the ONLY protein supplement  that I could handle for the 1st seven months post-op was Isopure in the premixed glass bottles - and there were only two flavors (Grape Frost and Blue Rapsberry).

NOW, I love Champion Pure Whey Stack Cocoa Mochaccino - I do it hot - 155 degrees water (over 160 will curdle the protein). I also like IDS Vanilla Cinnamon with Champion Pure Whey Stack Chocolate (equal parts). I do that hot too. Though with summer coming, I may do iced again.  I also like doing just the chocolate by itself (Champion) with sugar free Toasted Marshmallow syrup (Davinci or Torani).

You can find many places to order samples from - I get my protein from vitalady.com (hope it's ok that I post that).  She sells samples - and there are SO many different proteins to choose from! The nutritional information about sugar/carbs are available there as well.

Hope that helps!

Hello group, I am pre-op and am expecting a surgery date very soon.  I was wondering if people could tell me their favorite protein drinks?

From what I read from my surgeons papers he wants us on one that is 30-50 grams of protein, low in carbs and 1-2 grams of sugar per serving.  Has anyone found this, more importantly anyone found this and like it?

Thanks much!!

Topic: RE: What type of eater I am
I think my less than stellar eating habits are for the most part all unconcious or what they term as "mindless" eating.  After 40 years of being automated - it has become ingrained.

However, as I approach my surgery on Monday (lap band) I have been rethinking this.   Mindful eating MUST become a new mantra, a new habit, a new way of life.

Another wls friend told me something interesting last night.  She decides before eating ANYTHING if she truly wants the food to "take up real estate" in her puch as it is a valuable neighborhood!  She judges each bite as if it is worthy - which is an interesting way to look at eating after wls.

I was banded April 20, 2009.

Hi everyone,

Just joined and looking forward to all the helpful information i find here. I was wondering if anybody was from Connecticut and maybe also a patient of Dr. Aranow's.  Picking at my list of tests ...hopefully finished by end of this month. Look forward to chatting and being post -op.
