Topic: What is your anchor?
Why Charting Your Course Begins with Dropping Your Anchor by Katie Jay, MSW, Certified Wellness Coach

It's nice to have an anchor.
If you're a boat, an anchor means you have complete freedom to sail wherever and whenever you want, but when it's time to stay put, you have a safe harbor.
The sailing analogy works well for weight loss surgery patients, too. I use the metaphor all the time when I talk about being the captain of your own ship. However, I seldom acclaim the "anchor" when I speak on taking charge of one's own life.
If you're a WLS patient, an anchor means no matter how much we waiver from our WLS programs on any given day, there are some tried-and-true options for us that will help keep us on the straight and narrow. Your anchors will always bring you back to a safe place when you go off plan -- and we all do from time to time.
Here are a few of my personal anchors that I rely on when I'm particularly tempted or veering off course:
Don't mess with my breakfast. For me, starting off my day right is easy and tasty. I love cheesy eggs; they're good for me, so I have them every morning. I prefer the consistency in my day, and I don't feel deprived. While I may occasionally veer off course later in the day, this first meal always gets me back on plan.
More than my feet hop on the scale. Some people feel overwhelmed weighing and measuring their food. For me, I find it comforting to know with certainty that I am sticking with my plan. When I am home and able to use the scale with relative ease, I do take advantage of this tool in my own WLS program.
Always plan for a Plan B. This is especially true when you find yourself talking into the metal box at a drive-thru restaurant. If you have a disaster plan set in stone before you pull up, then you'll know what to do when you get there. A certain fast food restaurant, for example, offers chili and a side salad. For me, this menu choice is better than most, and has consequently ended up in the fine print on my contingency plan.
You'll need to tweak your own plan so it works for you when you are tempted or eating at a restaurant. I would encourage you to take some time and think about the anchors in your own program. Let me know what you discover and how well they are working for you.

Topic: RE: Great lesson - grumpy to happy all in one day!
I recognized the "me" part in your post and want you to know I appreiciate all you have done/are doing on my behalf. Someday that dream job will happen. Right now our bariatric program here at the hospital is in serious jeapordy due to the military budget cuts. Don't know how that will turn out but I'm going to enjoy every minute I have with it.
Isn't it grand to be wrong in a positive direction? Thanks for allowing yourself to have a great day. I have a magnet on my door that I see every time I leave that says "Have a great day, unless you have other plans" That's so true.
So, my wish for you is to have a great day - and if you have other plans -SCRAP THEM RIGHT NOW!!!!!
Hug to you

Topic: Great lesson - grumpy to happy all in one day!
I had an interesting thing happen yesterday. I woke up in a grumpy mood. I knew it was going to be a lousy day but was very pleasantly WRONG. I'll spare you the reasons why but I was convinced and prepared for a crummy day.
It is so nice to be wrong sometimes! LOL
I had a great day and it served as a great lesson for me. After I got settled for the day, prepared for things to go wrong, things in my day went right. I talked to a special friend a couple of times and was able to support her (normally she is supporting me all the time!!) so that made me happy, nice family time, got lots done with work, able to advocate for another friend to do something she wanted to do (Happy....I was happy , etc. I'm grateful that I didn't stick to my original mindset that it was going to be a lousy day because it ended up being a great, great day!
This reaffirmed the lesson to me to be open for whatever gifts and lessons that come my way everyday.

Topic: TUESDAY - Cardio & Cafe
Well, here we are at Tuesday - one of my favorite days as I facilitate a bariatric support group here at the hospital every Tuesday at noon time. Unfortunately, with the military budget cuts our bariatric program is in serious jeapordy. But I sure intend to enjoy it as long as I can.
EXERCISE; Same old, same old - walking and stairs
FOOD; Found a couple of new cereals - tried one this morning and will try the other tomorrow. Since I mix my cereal with powdered magnesium which has a citrus taste can't relly report how it would taste without that - but, given that, I like the one I tried this morning as a change of pace
B - Flax Z Snax chocolate creme hot cereal - 155
Unjury chocolate protein powder - 100
Whole flax seeds - 90
S - HW choc drink - 80
HW choc drink - 80
L - Buffalo/pork meatloaf - 272
Finn multigran thin crisps - 40
HW choc drink -80
S - HW mango mingle - 160
D - Publix shredded pork - 270 (rather high in sugar 18g but chose to eat it anyway - for a treat)
Birdseye stemfresh broc, caul, & carrots - 30
HW choc drink - 80
CALS - 1437 CARBS - 84g PROTEIN - 162g
The sun is shining, there's a gentle breeze, I'm feeling good about myself, others, and the world - who could ask for anything more?
BOTT POWER is working Thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of the BOTT family
