Adjusted protein bar habit

Hi Friend members,

For years, I've had a bedtime snack of a protein bar.  I still log my food and when I really thought about it, the protein bars weren't exactly a snack but caloric-wise almost like a meal.  I LOVE the Power Crunch bars and have bought them and had one daily for a long time.  While absolutely delicious, they have 210 calories in them.  The fish or chicken I have for dinner doesn't have that many calories!!  I changed to one that was 140-160 calories a few months ago.  I noticed that I HAD to have this before I went to bed.  The "HAD" to this situation concerned me a bit.

I've changed that habit from HAD to have it to having a piece of fruit.  Okay, I know that it isn't exactly the same thing but it feels better to me.  The HAD to have it was bothersome.  Now that strawberries (one of my faves!) and other spring/summer fruits are more available, I am replacing that habit for my protein bar for awhile.  I feel better physically and also mentally because I recognized that it could become a problem and now I'm in charge!!

Have a great weekend.

Thanks for this great reminder to look at the "why" we are eating.   Thanks for being so honest.

Hi Annie,

Thanks for your reply.  After I wrote my post, I thought it was a bit silly but I wanted to share it.  That is one of the reasons why I like OH Groups, because I can be honest with the members of the group.

Thanks for being a member and your reply.

I am still battling the eating at night time after dinner.  It is one of my problems I need to continue to get under control.  I have jello here at home but I don't want jello!!  I mean they tell you to eat something like jello or pickles and unfortunately I go for other stuff.

I really need to analyze the why of my eating.  Meanwhile I do eat 1 or 2 fudge posicles instead of other just I had started to eat late at night.  Thanks so much for this post and reminder to analyze our habits.  BTW - I use to eat Power Crunches too but came to the realization I could have so many other protien snacks with no carbs, less calories, and cheaper too.....:-)

Hi Molly,

One of the many things I like and respect about you is that you "analyze the why of my eating."  I completely agree with you.  We didn't get to the point of needing WLS because we were hungry.  It is because we ate for reasons other than hunger.

Nighttime eating has been a problem for me for years and I still struggle with it at times.  I don't know if it is the let down from the stress of the day, boredom, or all of the above and more.  As of now, I save something healthy such as strawberries like I'm currently having or a protein snack (as you mention), and that is working for me.

Thanks for your reply!!

Hugs, Cathy
