I just completed my first six months on the  15th of March. I have lost 83 pounds so far and I feel very well. I never joined any group and there were many times I felt I needed support. Thank you for forming this group.

Congratulations on your six month surgery anniversary!  You have done amazingly well.  Just think, you'll never see those 83 pounds again.  Bye-bye 83 lbs!!

I'm glad you're a member of my group.  Post or contact me anytime.

Again, congrats!

Thank you Cathy, I can honestly say that when I thought of doing this I wa**** by several raod blocks. I lost two family members back to back. I fell in a store and broke my right ankle but I was st on have my surgery done. I persisted and when I look at me now I am glad I did. I try to encourage others who are thinking of having this surgery to set a goal and follow through to achieve it.

It has been an incredible journey but worth the results. I wish that I had gotten on sooner when I was having a slightly rough go at the beginning. I kept on plugging along with the help of my loving husband and newly adopted children. I now have friends who understand what weight loss surgery is all about. It is not for looks but for health. Ay 60yrs old I don't think it is going to improve my beauty!LOL. Thank you for your encouraging words.

I have to personally disagree with you, G'smom.  I'm 77 and I believe it has improved my "beauty"  As one who counsels bariatric patients, I've found that while many give health as one of the major motivators, as soon as they feel better that no longer seems as important.  ( , interestingly, a British article sharing their research findings, bears this out)  Like everything else, the answer is in "balance"  To only do it for beauty and the liklihood of success is small (if that's the motivator, there's always another "beauty corner" to go around) but I think a healthy dose of vanity can be a good thing for us.  Isn't support wonderful?  And I agree 100% the all the effort is more than worth it.

So glad you're here!!!!

I have never been a raging beauty, not even when I weighed 112 and had a 21inch waist. So gaining weight never bothered me. I was in a marriage to a morbidly obese man for 33years, 8months and 20days. I tried to fit in his world at the cost of my health. I know that to some people beauty is very important. I have always believed that if you are healthy, you smile more because you feel good. What person who smiles isn't pretty? Health and beauty go hand and hand. I am not going to have surgery to remove my arm flaps or my saggy tummy due to other reasons such as cost. But in any case I can now chase my kids around the zoo.
