I had the lap band on Thursday and although i am on liquids, I am not getting the full sensation.  In fact I am just not hungry at all.  I make myself drink the required amount of liquids but I am going to be starting on the mush diet in a couple of days.  I know it is supposed to be of baby food consistency but I would like to know what you have tried.  Please leave me some suggestions besides cream of whea****ered down oatmeal etc.

Congratulations on your surgery!!  I hope you're feeling better every single day.

With the Lap Band, the band is inserted hollow.  Some post-ops report a full sensation and others don't.  In fact, I've had patients that have told me they don't feel any different and swear they didn't have anything done.  Wait until you've had your first fill.  Do you know when your surgeon gives the first fill?  Usually surgeons give the first fill around 4-8 weeks post-operatively.  Communicate with your surgeon that you do not experience the full sensation AND that you want to feel the feeling of restriction when you have your fill.

It is common not to feel hungry, especially right after you've had surgery.  You haven't had it even one week yet so that is to be expected.  Even though your surgery was less intrusive than the other procedures, you are healing and inflamed internally from the insertion of the band and port.  Give it some time.

Yes, definitely make sure you get in your water/liquids.  That is critically important with any wls procedure.

Your surgeon should have given you a listing of foods that he/she wants you to progress to.  If you don't find enough variety or anything that sounds good, see what other alternatives that can allow you to eat.  Although I had RNY, I know that cream of whea****ery oatmeal are common first foods for Lap Banders.  I've also heard of cottage cheese as an alternative too.  You might check about that.  Some surgeons allow loosely cooked scrambled eggs too.

Again, congratulations.  Please let us know how you are doing.

I feel great except.... I took a shower today and one of my surgerical sites looks like it is getting infected...sighz.
I called the Doctor thinking that I could get antibiotics and they said they will need to open it back up and pack it.  Ugh, somehow I don't think I will be under for this procedure.  God help me.  I will let you know how things go.  Thanks for the support.

As a fellow lapbander, sounds normal to me.    Have you ever tasted baby food?  I hadn't until I had my surgery (3+ years ago) and UGH - NASTY.   I felt so bad for I had fed all three of my children baby food LOL  You really can put any food in your blender and puree it and you don't have to endure real baby food

You have so many wonderful changes ahead of you - I'm exited for you
