Food Addiction course update
As many of you know, I'm taking a addiction recovery coach training class that includes food issues. It has been fascinating to put our dependence on food in a different way than I've ever known before.
Rather than push away and feel bad about myself for my issues with food, I now understand and feel tremendous compassion for the reasons why I turned to food. Instead of feeling as though I'm defective or broken for my food issues, I now believe I'm very determined and resourceful as to my past with food.
In our past when we initially turned to food for whatever reason personal to each of us, it worked. However, addiction starts when that coping strategy of turning to food no longer is needed and doesn't work for us in the same way. Obviously, if we've become morbidly obese, it no longer works for us in the same way that it was necessary for our survival when we initially turned to food. When once using food for whatever reason worked, it has worn out its use and, in fact, we don't need it now.
The awareness of my past reasons why I turned to food as a child and my life now, is huge. I understand the reasons why I needed food to cope and why I DON'T need it now.
I'll continue to update here with this powerful way of thinking of our food issues along with the understanding and compassion for my past, now and future.
