Hello!  My name is Patricia and I just joined this group.  I am hoping to have RNY surgery.
I am an emotional eater. I was not a fat child for the most part, but around the age of 9 or 10 I started gaining weight. I was maybe 15 to 20 lbs more than the other kids my age. But as I got older I started putting on more weight. By the time I graduated from High school I was wearing a size 18/20.  Through nursing school I continued my path of adding on the pounds. By the time I was 21 I weighed 245lbs. But I have always thought of my self as PHAT & FINE. I had high self esteem, out going, traveled and enjoyed life. Had an active dating life and had nothing to complain about life was good. But the pounds kept coming and so did the achy back and bad knees. When I met my husband I was 33 years old & 470 lbs. I was still pretty active at this time working and taking some college courses.  Fast forward 3 years and on the day of my wedding up to 600lbs!!! at that point I did not feel PHAT & FINE. I felt SUPER UNHEALTHY. I decided to do something about my weight. I said if I didn’t get a hold on my weight I wouldn’t live much longer this was 2006. Over the years I have tried every diet, weight loss program and potion I heard of to try and loose weight.  In 2006 I had PPO insurance, after MD referral, Psyche consult and many test the PPO denied the request for surgery. Thank God In 2008 I found out my employer offered an HMO that covered the surgery. I was on the right track following the bariatric program and doing well. I went from 600lbs to 566lbs by September 2009. September 3, 2009 one of my best friends died from complication after having excess skin removed and breast augmentation. I was devastated and lost control. Now I am better and weighting 605lbs. But that’s ok because I am back and getting better by the day. There is more to my story but I will save that for another day. Thank you for listening.

Hi Georgia,
I'm so glad you have begun this amazing journey. It is filled with lots of emotions. I so remember being afraid yet excited. You will blink and your surgery time will arrive and then you'll soon be a year down the road.
I too have struggled with depression and anxiety. I wish I could say my depression/anxiety is gone. It is not but I am generally more happy and feel a confidence I've never experienced. I still have times I want to stress/emotional eat.
Ask lots of questions, none are silly or unimportant.

Topic: RE: Plastic surgery

Georgia ,
I have had all the plastics except for my legs . and it is a really envasive surgery so I am putting it off for a while .
Not everyone has to have it . It depends on age , how much weight you lose. As for me , I was 40 when I had mine , I had lost 225 pounds , so I needed it .

I had , a breast lift , implants ( 350 cm ) Brachioplasty ( Arms ) Total Body Lift , Butt Lift with implants ( the implants came from my own fat and skin left over from my body ) It looks amazing .. No plastic implants to worry about .

Plastics are not for everyone .. but for me ... I could not stand it any longer .. I was newly married and wanted to look nice and was tired of rolling my boobs up into tube socks ... If you would like to see my before and after , let me know and I can allow you into my picture file .

Take care and all the best to you ,

Well , CECE ., I am going to put it out here .. I am a Christian , and I believe when God calls us home it is our time. I am so sorry to hear about your husband , what a tragic loss.
But CECE .. if you want to be around for those girls , this surgery can and will give you that chance .
Are there complications , yes , just like with any surgery there are risk , But I can tell you ... I have been around for 7 years and when I hear of people passing away due to surgery , it normal had to do with the co-mobilities they had prior to going into the surgery. ie... Diabetes , Cholesterol , High blood pressure , Sleep apnea , Heart disease .
I would recommend to ease your girls minds that you get a complete physical done , so that way they can see how ready you are .
I can understand them not wanting to lose their Momma .. you are all they have left now . But just think .. a year from now , when you are down 100 or more pounds and healthy ,, are they going to be shocked and ready to go out and celebrate.

As to regain .. IT IS UP TO YOU !! ... WLS is a tool . And if you abuse the tool , you are going to regain . If you use alcohol , if you drink with your meals .. if you eat the wrong things , yes you can gain the weight back , But just like any program you must work the tool to the best of it;s ability . And it all comes down to how bad you want it . As for me .. I keep a picture if my Obese self on my fridge , and when I want that piece of pie , I reach for that yogurt and add some granola .. it is easy to do .

And if you need support , there is ton of it here . We are all here and have been where you are  . I challenge you to use us and to believe in yourself . Love yourself enough to get healthy and give those girls the Mother they so deserve .

Love and respect for fighting the disease they call Obesity ,

Tink

Topic: RE: Week of 11-14-/ How are we going to move our bodies this week?
 Jazzy ,
Tomorrow I am going to take the dog for a long walk and throw the frisbee for her. I want to lean how to hike . There are so many mountain ranges around here so i am going to begin looking for a trainer who can prepare me for this.
I have been so sick here latley and my upper body strenght is gone , and to hike and rock climb you must be strong in these areas .

I always dance every fday in my living room , that will not change , but I need a new change of pace .

Love ya ,

Tink

Topic: RE: Hi everyone!
Boy have you come to the right place ...
I am 7 years out and it has been no pic Nick , but all in all I have had no complications from the surgery itself. I have Addison's disease ( I have no adrenal glands due to tumors ) these where there when I was Obese ,
I like you contemplated the surgery 3 years before going through with it , I had went to see a surgeon for a hernia repair , not knowing he did weight loss surgery too , He told me before he would do the hernia repair I had to get the weight off . So we submitted the insurance and I was turned down. To me this was my sign that it was just not my time .

Then I found OH ... and a wonderful lady name Leilani .. I read her profile and I looked at my daughter with tears in my eyes and said .. if this 400 plus pound women can do this , I know I can . So the journey began .

One thing I can offer you is that you need to follow your surgeons advice , drink your water , exercise and get in that protein. When he tells you to supplement with vitamins you need to follow his directions .

Do not compare yourself to others . You will lose weight at your own pace. AS for me ... I knocked it out of the ball park. I swam each day , ran each day , I did cardio ,, I did it all , and bt 90 days out I was down 100 pounds,. this was unusual for a woman , so my NP told me I had the metabolism of a man. I went frin 359 ti 125 and have maintained it thus far .
I am now a support group leader and a Bariatric Life coach. I love to give back, anything I can do to help others brings me such joy,

If you have any questions or concerns, there are many here that can and will share with you their stories l

Well all the best to you , keep us posted and know we love and respect you ,

Always,

Tink
