Let feelings be feelings and facts be facts.

One of the biggest mistakes human beings can make is to base certain lifestyle decisions on feelings. When you are in the process of changing to a healthier lifestyle, you will feel uncomfortable with the change, so you may make decisions to do certain things based on your feelings—like drinking with your meals because you enjoy the flavor of the beverage.

When creating a healthier lifestyle, it is wiser to base your decisions on facts. Exercise, for example, is critical to long-term success. So, not feeling like exercising is irrelevant. You have to look at the bigger questions: What are my long-term goals and what will get me there? The factual answers to those questions should be what you base your decisions on.

Action for the day: Do something you don't feel like doing today, because you know it will make you healthier (and happier in the long run).

Topic: Endoscopy
I will be heading off to the gastroenterologist in a few hours to have an endoscopy.  I have  been having some issues with regards to mucus in my re-engineered stomach.  Have any of you with a RY procedure had excess mucus in your pouch?  It is causing me to loose my cookies.... Anyway, just wondering if others have had a similar issue.

Thanks,

JB

Topic: Hi I'm Christy. New here. First time to post
Hello everyone!  I'm so happy to be  a part of a support group.  I just found out today that my insurance approved me for sugery!  My preop and endoscopy is scheduled for Thursday 12/16/10 and my surugery is Monday 12/20/10.  I'm very excited and a bit intimidated.  I love reading what people have experinced and what each is going thru... I think what I've gathered in general is that the surgery really helps the body respond to our actions of not eating so much (including eliminating or greatly reducing the physical hunger) and that ther is also an emotional hunger and psychological hunger that we are also helping each other figure out how to quench without the use of food.  I have no idea how to do that, so I'm glad we have each other to figure that out.  Thank you for letting me be a part of your group.

Topic: RE: OTHER SCALE VICTORIES
There are plenty of non-scale victories to be grateful for.  I am off my diabetic meds, I don't need my C-pap machine anymore, and my BMI is out of the morbidly obese category.  More than that, I feel so much better and more confident than I have in years.  I put myself out there more because of that and am trying things now that I wouldn't have 90+ pounds ago; like weight machines and a "Pump Up Pilates" class.  No way the old me would have done that because I would be too self conscious. It helps when I write these things down because it is too easy to get caught up in the scale number, good or bad.

John,
Is that not the greatest feeling ?
I remember having to ask for a seat belt extention. Now I don't have to do that anylonger ... and boy does that feel good , No number on a scale could take away that feeling,
Congratulations my friend ,Congrats !

Recently, I went on a business trip to Missouri where I flew from San Diego to Tulsa on Southwest Airlines.  The last time I flew on an airplane, I was 85 lbs heavier and was quite uncomfortable.  This trip was so much easier.  I was able to easily fit into the coach style seat and was very comfortable with the seat-belt around my lap.  It was a wonderful feeling not having to worry about who was going to sit next to me and how I would feel at the end of the flight.  My only challenge was not having any padding on my tail bone so my rear end was a bit sore after the flight (lol).  I can bring a cushion to take care of this next time.  I am very grateful that I am feeling more comfortable with my body.

Most times we guage our success by the number on the scale. Have you ever congratulated yourself for being off your diabetic meds, or being able to cross your legs :?
Take a look at this hand out and read about other scale victories... and start patting yourself on the back for things other than that " scale number "
